I hate a full moon, esp in May. Try to find dark banks. Lures are pretty much the same.

Agree with fishincreek. Don't like bright moon. Dark banks for sure on full moon. Have to admit, as much as I don't like the moon, my best striper was on the full moon, post cold front, bluebird skys, bright bank, winter. One of the best nights I've had on the lake. If I had checked the weather before I planned the trip, I probably would have stayed home. Stripers are masters of pychological warfare. As soon as you think you have them figured out, they change completely. Probably a big reason that the vast majority of fisherman who have chased stripers for more than a few years are more than just a tad insane

    Read Lance's most recent report.

I was down there and experienced the same thing.

You can get them in June. However, your window of oppertunity is much shorter and there are typically less fish up. It can also be more sporatic in terms of where they come up.

    Re: stripers

We fished Tues/Wed. nights. Wed night went early and not much happening in the creeks.
We ended up w/ 2 about 24" on Long A's. Dad caught a 24" walleye on a Gizz 4 early AM.

Wed went out late...perfect weather...no shad, no fish busting. We did catch a 23 & 3/4" stripe (seems to be an abundance of this size now) and had some other hits. Very slow.

Why do you guys think they are slow right now? I would think this should be the prime week for them in a normal year.

The month of May is and has always been the month for the night bite. It is the most consistent and tried and true month for the Alewife to spawn thus the reason the linesides are on the bank to start with. The month of April can be good and it can be spotty to bad depending on weather patterns. The weather this year has sucked and has made for a bad April. Hang in there it will get better as them ole Alwife's get up there making noise and doing their thing, May is the month.

    Re: stripers

I don't like the full moon. My buddy loves it. I just don't have the confidence fishing at night when I can see my crankbait hit the water. Darker lures might help. As for the dark side of the moon, I like to throw all white, white redhead, red back, chartreuse, both deep and shallow divers depending on what the stripers are wanting that night. Nothing like having a striper hit your crankbait at night.
