The number of tournaments throughout the state on a weekly basis is staggering. Tournaments tie up parking and ramps at our public waters causing the casual fisherman to either go somewhere else or stay at home. Trouble is on some lakes there will be some form or fashion of tournament held at about every ramp on a given body of water. This leaves the family very little opportunity to go fishing on a weekend.

Tournaments should be defined as a commercial gaming enterperise and should follow the same rules as any other form of gambling in the state. Win a couple thousand bucks at the track or the lottery and see how long it takes the state to stick their paws out for their share. Tournament fishing is no different. You put up your money chancing that you will win more in return. That is by definition gambling.

I have been told that other states do exercise oversight on the tournaments held on their bodies of water through permits and fees. Maybe this is why so many out-of-staters come here to hold their tournaments.
Not sure if I want any tax man in my pocket more than he already is! I'm not into any more oversight by authorities since in my mind there is plenty and asking for more means asking for more taxes.

You know Florida tried to put fees on tournaments back in the late 80's and all the big trails left the state. Alot of money went away as well....

The TAX Man should ALREADY BE THERE........if you're not paying TAXES on the winnings, you are CHEATING. I fished a tourney at Dale Hollow this past winter.....FIRST and ONLY tourney I will fish......

The few hundred bucks I won WAS claimed as earnings.

    Sorry,

    Geo

I have no problem taking my winnings without paying taxes. They steal from me alot more than the few hundred I make from winnings. If I was treated fairly then I would do the same.

    Re: Opinions on Tournaments

im not sure how many poker players are on this board or corn hole tourney players or anything that a bunch of men/women get together, put some money in a pot and play to win the pot. would it be a good idea to tax the ''money earned'' from those events? i think were taxed enough and dont need to go looking for stuff to tax just because some might not like to participate. i tourney fish, but spend more time fishing for fun. i would rather a bass boat go flying by than to get pushed onto the bank by a rude pleasure boater. those to me are more aggravating than any tournament boat.
