I told you guys he was DIRTY.........Too **** BAD KY couldn't stay away.
I only hope this is not serious.........for KY's SAKE.
The University of Memphis is responding to NCAA allegations that the men’s basketball program committed major violations during the 2007-08 season under John Calipari, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

Ditto!
Any KY Coach will be under this Microscope for previous job or players he coached and Coach Cal can handle it. Some of the out of conference team fans for IU and UOL and probably any SEC team in general want this guy to get caught at something. They are scared of the team that is growing in Lexington!

Cal is under the micorscope because he has shady dealings with folks. It has nothing to do with UK, but anybody find it just coincidence that Memphis will go on probation and Cal will get away scot free. Where have we seen this episode before? Oh that's right...it was at UMass.Ditto!

You know I have no dog in this fight but I have never really cared for Calipari. He has always reminded me of a smooth talking used car salesman. He never lies and it's always the other guys fault never his. When theyexspounshed(spelling) the final four from UMass because of the shady dealings with Marcus Camby, Calipari through Camby under the bus and ran like a deer. He said he certainly can't be expected to know everything that goes on with players off the court with boosters and fans, blah blah. Then his departure and his personal record isn't damaged at least on paper. Now, it APPEARS here we go again. I am not a Kentucky fan, can't deal with the rabid fans, not all of them, but there are some that are just....well scary really. All that being said though, I hope for the state, the school, the fans, at least the good ones, and the tradition of UK basketball this guy doesn't do what I think he might do. If it was my team I would be concerned, very concerned.Cal is under the micorscope because he has shady dealings with folks. It has nothing to do with UK, but anybody find it just coincidence that Memphis will go on probation and Cal will get away scot free. Where have we seen this episode before? I don't think what is going on now at Memphis has anything to do with UK but being under the microscope has everything to do with UK...IMO.Cal is under the micorscope because he has shady dealings with folks. I bet there are so many fans out there who pull for other teams that are salivating at the possibility of Cal being connected or getting caught at something here. It comes with the package of Coach Cal. now if he gets caught at doing anything wrong, now or later, throw the book at him or any other Coach that is found guilty.
You gotta give the guy a chance....
Something shady about all this, G is suing CAl is who knows, he is Italian, is he mob? lol. It probally took some shady dealing to get him here anyway. It seems that in this day and age in order to be the best in sports, ie basketball, football, baseball, that schools coaches fans will do anything to have the best coach, players stats, PROFIT, MONEY MONEY MONEY, it is all about money, it is not the pride, the determation, it is all about the money, and like any thing where big buck's are possible. Shady deals abound. It is sad that college sports have come down to to this.
Cal will come out just fine. Some other guy will take the fall, that is the way it is done. I will bet you a fishing trip he knew what was going on, but is just smart enough to keep his name out of it.
He will do the same thing at UK and in 5 or 6 years he will move on to another school and blame the alumni or somebody else.
Once again, the media blows something completely out of proportion and spins it to make a good soundbyte, then our rabid and completely unsatisfiable fans take that which is blown out of proportion and move it to DEFCON 5.
I have been utterly disgusted with ESPN's coverage of this deal, and would likely tell Pat Forde which section of my ass he could kiss if I had the opportunity in person.
Everybody hates Kentucky...they love to hate us...that's just the way it is. I suspect that with a new coach, the #1 recruiting class coming in, and a bit of a rebirth into relevance lately, the hating will only get stronger.
These NCAA allegations have been going on for awhile, long before Cal agreed to coach KY. He was up front with UK about it, UK spoke directly to the head swinging **** at NCAA compliance about it, and that dude gave Cal a glowing recommendation about how great he had been to work with...
Weeks ago, Memphis spent its own money to hire a handwriting expert to compare the written answers on Rose's SAT with Rose's handwriting...and supposedly they match. Nothing has been proven. It's an allegation. Rose would have taken his SAT in high school before signing a letter of intent and coming to Memphis, so it's likely that if Rose cheated, Cal nor anyone at Memphis would have known. That's not saying they could not have been involved, but somehow I doubt it. Just like Cal is not to blame for John Wall being a kid and breaking into an empty house with some friends to party, he is not to blame for a kid allegedly cheating on his SAT.
Also, the "Major Allegations" against the University of Memphis Athletics Department? THEY ARE AGAINST THE WOMENS GOLF TEAM. Seriously. The media, however, sure doesn't want to seem to talk about that though....it sounds so much better to say: "MAJOR ALLEGATIONS AT MEMPHIS UNDER COACH CALIPARI." Not a lie, but a piss poor representation of the truth if you ask me.
This guy gets it:
Spirit of the law follows Calipari, not Memphis golf
by Mike Decourcy, Sporting News
The letter that arrived back in January to University of Memphis president Shirley Raines' office stated up front she had some serious issues in her athletic department. The words "major violations" are right there, like a Category 5 hurricane warning to a person living in a beachfront home.
And then, for six and a half pages, the "notice of allegations" goes on about women's golf.
A show of hands: How many knew Memphis even had a women's golf team? Who figured there could be anything major about it? There are some substantial charges against the women's golf program, which is how new Kentucky coach John Calipari came to find himself in the headlines. His name appears nowhere in the report, but two allegations regarding the Tigers basketball program he once coached have been extrapolated to "major" because they were stuffed under the same umbrella as the golf case.
Under ordinary circumstances, the issues involving the basketball team would be disposed of fairly simply. The accusation that a player, reportedly star point guard Derrick Rose, did not take his own SAT is a huge deal. There's not much worse than academic fraud. But this customarily would not constitute a major violation against the program because no Memphis staff member is alleged to have facilitated it or known about it.
A charge that a family member of a player received free travel, reportedly Rose's brother Reggie, would be disposed of with a check to reimburse the university for its expense.
It's not so neat and quiet now. The charges are a big deal in Memphis, Kentucky and in places where people have some interest in Kentucky basketball, which is more or less everywhere. The semantics and technicalities of why the basketball charges are considered to be major won't really matter.
No one will want to hear Memphis is not in the habit of letting people fly free on its team charters. Some of its most generous boosters -- people who have given upward of a half-million dollars to the athletic department -- have hopped on board when convenient. They always were charged at the end. The person who allegedly received free trips paid for some, also. The gentleman who handles the team's travel is one of the most thorough, meticulous people you will encounter. If Memphis wasn't fully reimbursed, it's not because the traveler did not receive a bill.
The university apparently feels good about its response to the charges. There has been speculation that if a player cheated on his SAT and rendered himself ineligible that the Tigers' NCAA-record 38 victories and 2008 Final Four appearance could be vacated. However, if it's not proven Memphis had reason to know the player was ineligible -- indeed, the NCAA clearinghouse had certified the eligibility of that season's freshmen -- it would be hard to justify that action. The coaches were told the kid could play, so they played him.
This is not to say that in trying to make this all go away the University of Memphis might not offer the surrender of the Final Four as a solution. That would hurt the players who competed and the fans who followed the team, but they know what they accomplished. It's Calipari who has the most to lose if 2008 were to be stricken from the record because the accomplishments of his 1996 Massachusetts team already have an asterisk attached. That came as the result of star center Marcus Camby's admission he received payment from a prospective agent. If Calipari were to have two Final Fours wiped away, his reputation would absorb the most punishing blow to date.
The only good news for Calipari in all this is the NCAA pretty much turned over the tables in the Tigers basketball program once it entered the door to check on women's golf. If this is all there was to find, the basketball program was being run reasonably well.
It won't play like that publicly, though. Memphis has some serious allegations to defend in women's golf, but no one really noticed those issues existed. The NCAA justice system is a complicated apparatus that sometimes defies easy explanation. It's not so tough to figure out who is a star and who is not.

Both of these kids had/have questionable character issues and people around them that other schools were worried about but Cal did not seem to mind so while he may not be directly involved with what happened he's not as innocent as you would like to think.
It's all about winning at any cost with Cal, always has been always will be. He kept players around that beat their girlfriends (one was brutal), started riots............ He did finally kick Jeremy Hunt off a team after a few incidents but then brought him back after two players left early for the NBA and he needed him. Sure he had no control of these situations either but, but, but ohh forget it.
Here's a article that talks about the above.

He left Umass when things got hot, he left Memphis when things got hot and I really hope he doesn't get Ky in any hot water but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. JMHO
Well lucky for John Wall and Derrick Rose that Cal is such a slimeball that he would let them come play for him. I'm sure they would have had a really hard time finding any other coach at any other school to play for.
These are kids and they are human...they are going to make mistakes, some worse than others. We all made mistakes of some kind when we were younger too, and I'm sure that some of them were just as illegal as punching a guy or breaking into an empty house to party. If you want the BEST BASKETBALL TALENT on the basketball court, you've got to be willing to give them a chance (ONE chance, in my opinion) to grow up and gain some integrity while learning from mistakes...or straighten up and fly right, as my Dad used to say. If it was about recruiting the nicest guys with the best grades, we'd be Vandy.![]()
Funny you should mention Vandy, since Cal let Billy Richmond transfer from Vandy to Memphis after he was kicked out of school because of his violent problems. Then while at Memphis, Richmond beat up one of his teamates. Of course Cal kicked him off the team after that.....oops, no he didn't he suspended him for a game or two and let him back on the team.Well lucky for John Wall and Derrick Rose that Cal is such a slimeball that he would let them come play for him. I'm sure they would have had a really hard time finding any other coach at any other school to play for.

Then I was a member of the media at the time when this happened and it was one of the greatest spin jobs of all time. I am covering the Louisville vs. Memphis game in Freedom hall. Memphis wins a close win and toward the end of the game with it still not decided, Richmond steps to the line to shoot one and one. The crowd is screaming and hollering as he shoots the first free throw. He makes it and then gives the crowd a throat cutting gesture which results in a technical foul.
In the post game press conference, Cal says of Richmond "You guys really need to give this kid a break, he is really a good kid!"
You do realize that Cal is getting ready to accomplish something that no coach IN THE HISTORY OF COLLEGE BASKETBALL HAS EVER ACCOMPLISHED! Have two teams that he coached be stripped of Final Four appearances. Of course it was all somebody elses fault and the head coach had no idea these things were going on in the program he was responsible for.
