    Re: pepper in fish meat

A while back I had a boatload of fillets that had this parasite - did a little research and found it's OK to eat them as long as you cook them thoroughly.

The life cycle is fascinating. Goes from a kingfisher, to a snail, to the fish: http://www.fish.state.pa.us/images/p...fish/worms.htm

Thanks jcb, most excellent this is it exactly. As a matter of fact the lake that I find these in are in Big Gills that I harvest every year for table fare. They eat a ton of these snails out of this body of water. I've seen their bellies full of these snails.
    Thanks again.

Fellas I never figured myself as picky when it comes to food but I won't intentionally eat cooked parasites. I understand they say it's ok but I'll pass!

I can't recall seeing them I'm the freshwater fish I've eaten. However, in FL we often catch Speckled Trout and Grouper that have small worms. Cut em out or cook em real good and you're ok.

Yep I remember the trout having those worms in them....never ate those either. Seems they were worse in the Summer.

found them in some big bluegill my 2 younger kids caught last week out of a members lake last week. i had heard it was ok to eat them, but i just wanted to know if anyone had ate it and what they thought. i will still have a hard time making myself eat them, but hate to waste. also, they were some of the biggest gills ive seen since i was a kid. thanks for all your responses. later
