    Re: Seat Belts for Boats

Thank you for your response's. The reason about being thrown about is from other boat wakes or big waves, not from going to fast for conditions. I know that I would use them in rough water or wakes if I had them. Not worried about the flipping over just want to stay in the seat and save my ass. I talked with a orthopedic surgeon and he said that lots of injuries are caused from spine compression due to the body coming down when the boat seat is going up. Well it was just a thought, now I have to figure out how to attach them in my boat...

Etech, the issue is that if the waves are too big, be them from the wind and natural current, or the wakes of a boat, and the afore mentioned too big of a wave is throwing you about, and out of your seat, then I would agree with catfishwhisker (spelled name way wrong). Trim that motor down, and slow down. I've only been in high performance boats for a few years, 15-20, but my limited experience, compared to many on this board, is that I trim my motor down, lowering my bow, reduce my speed, and take the wakes in an appropriate manner to make sure I STAY in my seat.

Gotta love HB's ARSE SEAT KILL SWITCH though. Had me laughing the whole post.

    hey etec
do not get mad at me but the guys on the ranger board of another site say they run ranger boats 65 mph in 4 and 5ft rollers and drink coffee during blast off,you shouldn't have any compression problems.....are you planning on going to the berring{sp} sea crabbing with that 205? just funnin ya.actually rick clunn discussed that on a show of some sort,he said when he made long runs in bad water he put one leg,or roll up a jacket under his butt.he doesn't use a foot throttle, says they cause more fatigue,he is also the reason nitro boats came out with the higher seats.when your butt, lower back is the lowest point it gets all the pressure, putting your lower back, butt even with or above your thighs you are distributing the pressure all the way to,through, your feet.food for thinking..i use my throw cusion because my leg goes to sleep,it does help.even if the water isn't rough..

If you want a seatbelt, here is my idea..... Install a 1 inch thick rope that is secured to the boat on one side of you then bring it across your body through a ring that is secured to the boat. bring rope back across your body again and hold the now 2 ropes with your hand. The pressure of the 2 ropes being squeezed together will hold you in. If you flip the boat all you have to do is let go of the rope and it will release allowing you to float up to the surface with your PFD on.
    OR
2 grab handles to hold on to.
