palomar works on just hooks, but for me it would just be rediculous on a crankbait or anything similar. trilene knot has never failed me on braid

I must agree, from experience, that the palomar is the best knot out there...for ANY bait. Almost any pro angler you watch does the same thing. The only time you have to be careful with this knot is when using Flourocarbon. Be sure to wet the line first!

I've used the Palomar on braided line and it works great . Just as with any line though don't forget to monitor your lines condition and don't get lazy and forget to retie. This is the main reson for a failure. Having a dependable and strong knot can result in slacking off in monitoring your lines condition. Avoid the if it aint broke don't fix it mentallity.

I don't like a Palomar knot on medium to light line. I find that no matter how much its' wetted, it's still easy to abrade the line. I was watching that Bass Pros show one time and they had Stacey King on there demonstrating jigs, and the dude he was fishing with showed the knot he was using. They didn't give it a name, but it's basically a Trilene knot, with one extra loop. You tie a Trilene knot, and at the end, right after you pass the line through the loops right above the hook, you pass it back through the loop you just made, just like you do on the classic cinch knot. I tried it out, and I've been using it almost exclusively ever since.

saw a knot test on break strength once dont remember where but the trilene knot and polamar knot both had 100% break strength. no other knot had 100%. so either one is fine to use but i like the trilene knot because its easier to tie on cranks and spinners.

Why is this rediculous (SP?)???? Again, not saying that the Trilene knot is a bad one!

    Re: Best Knot For Braid

I have used a knot that my grandfather taught me when I was just a kid. It's like an improved clinch, but slightly different. I take the line through, loop it and hold it against the other line...then wrap the tail end of the loop around both lines six times, back through the loop and cinch. I have never had this knot to break. I have actually pulled out snagged 4/O hooks and straightened them flat! I always used it on braid, and it is unbreakable! IMO

Really? I haven't had a problem using it on everything except top water. I mostly use a loop knot for my topwater baits. What's the downfall with the palomar on cranks and other baits?

I'm guessing he is going to say the treble hooks get caught when you pass the bait through the loop. All you have to do is make the loop bigger.

Everyone in entitled to their opinion. There is nothing wrong with the Trilene Knot. I think the Palomar is faster and easier to learn he clearly thinks differently.
