Some people I suppose just don't "get it"

I was talking to a gentleman the other day that asked me what sort of hobbies i enjoyed in my free time. The first thing out of my mouth, and the first thing outta my mouth anytime in my life that question has been asked of me is "fishin." the guy looked at me and said "well i wouldn’t have figured you for a fisherman." now i did't say anything to him about why he thought that but i wondered what about me it was that made him draw such a conclusion, but that is another discussion altogether. Anyway, i told him that i have fished my whole life, as long as i can remember and that even though i enjoyed many other hobbies over the years as well that fishing is what has always left me with the fondest memories and rewarded me the most. He looked at me and asked the question, “well, did you ever quit fishing, or get tired of it?” quit fishing? Get tired of it? What kind of crazy question is that, i mean that thought has never crossed my mind, not ever! Not even on the most discouraging days on the water i can think of. I knew immediately that this guy wasn’t a fisherman or he would have never asked such a question. So i have been thinking about this conversation over the past few days and although other hobbies have come and gone fishing has, and always will be something i will continue to enjoy and love so long as the good lord lets me!
Some people I suppose just don't "get it"
My first thought after reading this was, "wonder what he was doing talking to a crackhead?"
Not sure how old you are or the other fella but I have seen allot of older men get out of it. I guess life and or health can get the best of a fella sometimes and before they know it it's been years since they have been on the water. (Granted not all of the older fellas get out of it)
My Dad was getting like that but I did manage to get him out every now and then. I would have the boat, tackle, food and drinks ready all he had to do was wake up, sit back and enjoy.![]()

At the end of our lives the important things have a way of sorting themselves out. Last year I had the opportunity to meet a request and take a fellow fishing one last time. He was in the latter stages of a terminal illness and hadn't been fishing in 40 years, but apparently never lost the love of it. Perhaps it was divine intervention, but he caught all of the fish and I got skunked (happily). He died 3 weeks later. His widow cherished the photo of him holding a bass he caught that day. In my book, this fellow had his priorities straight.
My fishing partner just celebrated his 82nd birthday. He has fished as long as he can remember. We fish 4-6 days a week, 4-8 hrs. each trip. And to quote him as he says, "When I aint fishing, I'm thinking about going fishing"
If fishing is in your blood I doubt it ever goes away.....I have enjoyed bass fishing since I was big enough to know what a bass was. About 10 years ago I quit fishing because of health problems (back) ,about a year and a half ago I bought a two man bass boat and thought I would use it a few times a year.....I was in the thing 2 or 3 times a week..about 6 months later I sold the thing and bought a bass tracker...I find that I enjoy the sport as much as I ever did....
I would fish everyday if I could, Dang work and life gets in the way. As another poster wrote, ''Some people just don't get it''.

God created work so we all would not get Fishing elbow. The good Lord knows I would be fishing everyday if it weren't for a little thing called a job.
I will quit on earth when they find me slumped over in my boat on Ky Lake...did not say I was gonna quit fishing even then....just be changing lakes.
