Here is the truthAndy:
My name is Bob Sneed and I am the Water Management Chief for the Nashville
District Corps of Engineers. Your inquiry was forwarded to me for a response
since Lake Cumberland falls under our area of responsibility. The rumor that
you mention seems to be going around message boards. I can tell you without
reservation that it is absolutely not true. Elevation 680 has been and
continues to be our target elevation. In the future as certain construction
milestones are reached an incremental filling of the pool will be considered;
however, the Nashville District has already announced that the 680 elevation
will be the target again in 2010. While we are looking for opportunities to
raise the lake level as construction progresses the project is inspected
daily and if certain conditions are observed the decision could be made to
lower the pool. I suspect it is this message of a potential pool lowering if
an emergency situation develops that evolved into the current rumor that you
have seen. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any
questions.
