Look for a press release soon concerning the Walleye in the lake and the water conditions they are in. They are floating again this year.

Is it the same reason as the trout below the dam, because there's to much flow, not enough cood water, etc?

Darn. I was just wanting to start learning how to Walleye fish there as a backup and extra carricular activity to striper fishing but this was in the back of my mind because of what happened before.

Not sure the reason but I "heard" that last time the Walleye did not move out of the low oxygen water and died down there. As of Sept 3-4 the oxygen went from 7.9 mg/l at 30 feet to 1.0 at 35 feet on the reading taken near the dam. It was slightly better near Jamestown. I think that is the neighborhood where the Walleye hang out. The O2 gets lower deeper and then picks back up a little to 1.5 at 65 feet.

Can anybody verify Walleye situation or know more about it?

Observation:
I have not caught any drum (by accident) or heard of anybody that has this summer.
Heard a couple reports of some hand size bluegill being caught.
Bot of the above seem unusual to me

Unfortunately the reports are true. This morning there were around 175 walleye floating in the dam area. Walleye are notorious for not adjusting and moving when dissolved o2 drops. Almost every year there are walleye die offs on Cumberland for this reason, usually not this large though. The good news is that it seems to be confined to the dam area only. I've only seen a couple of floating walleye in the Harmon to Fishing Ck area all year long. Hopefully that's the extent of it. If it is, Cumberland can certainly withstand a loss of 175 fish. Fingers crossed.

Just received O2 info for Sept. 14 Near the dam the O2 has gotten better down to 40' OK for Mr. Wally. Jamestown area still has the critical O2 cut off at between 30 and 35.
The trend over the last 30 days amazingly seems to be more O2 in deeper water. It has gone from low O2 levels starting between 25 and 30' to low levels now starting at 39' near the dam.

I guess the levels could be different 300 feet away from the sample area so what's what. Maybe pockets of O2.

What is odd and a friend confirmed, last weekend we saw stripers coming up from what appeared 60' into to 20' . They are all "supposed" to be above 30' feet where there is air. Maybe there was deep oxygen water in those areas where the two of us were 5 miles apart?

Just 2yrs back Barren didn't fill up because of the new Ramp they put in and they had a big fish die off then last yr the fishing was ok.Its been a little dry and with the rain maybe it will help.

I sure will be glad when they let the lake come up some. 690 would mean alot maybe by this time next fall, hopefully if everything goes right. I hate hearing about loosing fish.

I would think it would help the lake, but not sure it would help the river any.
