You still giving a dollar a STROKE![]()

Just wondering if any of you guys golf? (trying to stay away from the "other" topic). If so, what clubs do you hit and what is your handicap?
Also, I'm looking to buy a new three wood. Any of you have any advice?

You still giving a dollar a STROKE![]()
I use a set of Tommy Armor 855's. Taylor Made driver. And my handicap is just a crying shame....
I like golf and played for only a year or two. It cut into my fishing time to much. I have also scuba dived and enjoyed that alot but I would rather fish.
I always thought Golf was for guys who couldn't fish, lol. Just kiddin fellas.
I used to play some, but it cut into my other hobbies (hunting and fishing) so I gave it up.
My handicap was beer.
I'm pretty eat up with golf here lately, to be honest...have been golfing much more than I have been fishing. (Can't help but think of my late Grandfather and how he would likely slap me in the back of my head if he heard me say that and tell me to get my priorities right. LOL) I'm bored tonight, so here's the skinny on my golf game.
I'm not a very competitive person, so I do it for the fun, the social/business aspect of it, and more than anything right now, the exercise. I get out at least 2 times a week and walk 9 holes at a city course here in Lexington with some guys from work...usually Lakeside or Tates Creek. ($13 to walk as much as you like on a weeknight.) Then, I'll try to go on the weekends when I can.
I'm self-taught and never took a lesson, so I'm really not that good. I am generally straight, but lack in distance. In most cases, I'll take that any day. I'd rather be short in the fairway than long in the woods. My 7-8-9-P I'm pretty confident in, but 3-4-5-6 I'm pretty horrible at hitting.
I'm hitting some MacGregor V-Foil Forged irons that are about 6 years old...bought them when they first came out and they are okay. They are heavy, low center of gravity, which helps me hit my irons a little better and get them airborne. Been itching a bit for new irons, but holding off.
I hit Titleist Vokey wedges and love them - the 56 degree sand wedge is my money club. I have a pretty good pitching/chipping game now most days, but I have my moments where I'm a chili-dipper and a worm-burner.
My putter is an old Odyssey 2-Ball, center shaft...one of the original 2-Ball putters and I see absolutely no reason to change/upgrade. I'm getting better at putting and don't want to change anything there.
My driver is a Taylor Made Burner (09 Model), 10.5 degree, reg flex shaft. I'm slicing it like crazy right now. I'm attributing a lot of that to the fact that I have lost a TON of weight and I'm kinda re-learning my body mechanics right now. I've fought my body for years, and now I'm a little more freed up...my shoulders are too open at address and it's causing me to come outside-in on the ball and slice it. I'm just having a hard time correcting it, so many days I'll leave the big dog in THE BAG.
My fairway woods are my favorite clubs. Titleist 904F fairways, which are in my opinion some of the best fairway woods they ever made. Small pear shape, really smooth and compact. I have a matching set of 15 degree (3 Wood), 19 degree (5 Wood), and 22 degree (7 Wood). I can hit the 3-Wood 220-225 off the deck with no tee, so I use it regularly from the tee-box instead of the driver. It's straight. Most courses around here can be worked decent off the tee box at that distance if you are accurate. The 5-Wood I'll hit about 190-200, and the 7-Wood I'll hit about 170-175.
I've had the good fortune of playing some cool courses around here for the first time this summer. Played General Burnside on Cumberland (awesome), Hidden Cove on Grayson Lake (awesome), The Peninsula on Herrington Lake (awesome), and The Bull down at Clays Ferry on the River (my favorite)...we are blessed with a lot of good tracks around here. My scores range anywhere from mid-80's to upper-90's...I'm not real consistent. I shot 85 at The Bull this weekend and was 8" from my first hole-in-one, yet the previous weekend at Hidden Cove I shot 98 and was a major duffer. It's a dumb game.
Come on guys, there's room for fishing and golf. Heck, sometimes I combine the two! Golf courses have some awesome bass ponds on them! Keep the pocket-fisherman in the bag at all times!A couple quick casts have produced me some quality bass.
I hit the Nike Pro Combo Tour forged irons with the progressive backs. They go from solid forged backs on P-8, then begin a gradual progressive cavity back on 7-3. I have switched irons many times, but keep coming back to these. I hit taylormade v-steel fairway woods 5 & 7. They are good woods, but I'm looking to upgrade. I have a mizuno bettenarti (spelling?) putter that I love, with a sky blue Iomic grip. I hit Mizuno mp forged wedges, 51, 54, 60. And my true love, a Geek DCT Driver 6 degrees with a 48" Whup-n-Shaft low trajectory shaft (all made in the good old USA). This driver has changed my game! I can consistently hit the ball 300+ with less effort than I could hit my old Titleist D1 250! I wouldn't suggest this shaft unless you are 6'3" or taller (to long shaft). They do make the shaft in a regular 45". Any I always hit the Taylor Made TP Black ball.
My handicap has reduced from a 10 to a 2 over the last year. Lowest round shot this year was a 67 at Crosswinds Golf Course in Bowling Green. Love that course! I have heard that the Dale Hollow State golf course is amazing, and I am trying to get down there to play it. I also enjoy playing at the Barren River State golf course as well as The Crossings in Louisville (friend is the superattendent, so its free). Still trying to get on at Old Stone, but you got to have connections, and I don't! It's the nicest course I've seen out here. Beautiful! And, very, very, challenging from what I've heard. As close to PGA quality as we got. Maybe one day.
