My 5 yr olds first 3 Rainbow Trouts...

Nothing like seeing a kid catch a fish and especially when it is your own kid. My 5 yr old son LOVES to fish and I am thankful for that. Today we went to the gamefarm here in Frankfort and he catches his first 3 Rainbow Trout of his life. All caught from the lower smaller pond on "bobbers and worms". First cast and his bobber is dancing and these little fellas can flat out steal a worm from a hook. He caught 3 total, and I re-baited his hook 40 times in 2 hours, with the biggest being almost 12 inches and smallest was just over 6 inches. He loves to cast and play with the nightcrawlers more than anything else except reeling in the fish. Out of maybe 75 cast or so he made, only 1 went behind him and all the rest actually hit the water, not bad for a 5 yr old. He kissed all 3 of the fish and "threw them back in the water". Funny how less than 5 days ago I am going thru the worst drug withdrawals of my life, having horrible days and horrible thoughts and then to have 4 great days since makes life even funnier than normal. Nothing like spending time with your kids so take a kid fishing even if is not your own and you may just find out that taking a 3-0 butt kicking on the fish landing scoreboard is a PERFECT day in this world.

Thanks George, only hoping to make it to the lake and back with no problems and catch one fish a day is my only expectations but with 69 degree water temps 90% of the fish in both lakes will be in the back 1/3 of all the bays eating shad like candy. Surely I can at least catch 1 per day, the getting to and from with no problems is my only concern. Probably pushing it a bit but don't want to wait another couple of weeks just because I think the fall fishing is peaking now with all these cold temps we are having. Might just get some FNF action by Thanksgiving with the rate these lakes water temps are dropping. See you Friday.

That kind of story is what fishing is all about. He may be only five, but I'll bet he remembers this day all his life. Thanks for posting that, Elnut.

You should hit the jerkbait bite at the least and maybe some early FNF bites at Dale then. Surely the jerkbait bite will be in full swing, water temps should be mid 50's minimum and maybe a bit lower than that depending on what the air temps continue to do. That will be 4 trips for you to Dale from Thanksgiving thru the get together, added to the 12 trips to Ky Lake this spring/summer/fall added to the Dale winter trips from the first of the year to when you started with Ky and Barkley. Not another sad sob story about the fact that you only get 5-6 fishing trips a year and this is not even counting your BIG TRIP TO CANADA every year. All these trips is breaking my heart, do you need to adopt a son? If all it takes is for me to call you DAD, will you adopt me and take me on all these fishing trips. I will guide you and let you catch the first one of every day if it helps any. Even let you catch the biggest occasionally and the most once or twice just to be nice. Adopt me and take me along, please DAD!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahahahahha..............Actually, a lot of things changed workwise with me this past year, and I made it a priority to do what I WANT, instead of what WORK wants.......but now, with a really bad economy, and No JOBS, I might have to change that a little.

BUT you're right......I've been fortunate to be able to fish as much as I have this year..........It worked out really good for me.

    Later buddy.

So are you going to ADOPT me or not???? You did not answer that question. I don't bring much baggage, health issues, a wife, a 5 yr old son and 18 and 21 yr old daughters, but I do have a boat and know Ky, Barkley and Dale pretty good which is your fishing stomping grounds as well. So when does the adoption become complete? Hurry up because your, I mean OUR, thanksgiving trip is only a few weeks away.

Elnut, I hope you're right about them eating candy for I will be throwing every sucker, jolly rancher, and ring pop that I can find in my tackle box back in those bays this weekend. If you see a Red/Gray fish n ski in Sugar with one dude in front trying to get a lure out of a tree and one big dude in the back smoking while he waits, swing by and say hi.

Re: My 5 yr olds first 3 Rainbow Trouts...

Good to hear. Reminds me of when my dad use to take me out to catch trout at the city pond in our backyard. Of course, in Utah, trout live in every water. They used to stock that pond weekly with nice size trout. Good times. The old worm and bobber is deadly. Good to hear that your withdrawls are easing off. Fishing is a great way to distract yourself, and focus on some quality time with the kid and nature.

I have a six year old daughter who has been fishing since before she could walk (strapped to daddy's chest!). People get a kick out of here at Trammel Creek, since she has been going there since she was an infant, and the old timers there have seen her grow up. She gets out there and catches more trout than everyone else. Then I break out here fly rod (6ft, 3wt) and little chest waders and she continues to put a wooping on the guys throwing nymphs! It's classic! Kids are great!

    Take care.

    -Rich
