Slickhead Down

I shot a doe at 9:00 this morning after missing a shot at daylight. It's pretty tough shooting at 100 yards with open sights downhill.I shot under a mature does belly,but killed the 2nd one at about 60 yards with a lung/heart shot.
I had to be at a family reunion at noon so had to rush to skin and ice it down.What's amazing is that in 4 hours the buzzards found and cleaned up the gut pile leaving only some grass from the stomach and a blood stain.
Try for a buck tomorrow,anybody hear any of those rapid fire muzzle loaders like I did awhile ago?

Congrats on the doe. Great weather for hunting- that's for sure. I beleieve they sell those autoloading muzzleloaders at Wal-Mart. Aggravates the fire out of me too!!!!!!!!

Same here. Creek I don't know where you were but the weather here on Saturday flat OUT SUCKED. It blew wind, then it blew then when it blew somemore. We had wind gusts here up to 30 mile an hour. Now Sunday I will agree with you it was good weather.

I passed twice on the same buck, Saturday afternoon and again Sunday afternoon in the same cut Bean field. A real decent deer a nine point about 125 to 130 inches. I'm holding out for something better. Didn't want to fool with a slickhead just yet, still got plenty in the freezer, but will take a couple later on. I keep one and donate one to Kentucky Harvest almost every year.

It use to be the Crestwood Supermarket or old IGA. The new owner is not doing it this year, however Jeff the guy that use to do that in the back of IGA has rented some space over at the old Kelly's supermarket, where Minish and Potts is now and he has acquired some money for that until the funds run out.

He's not listed yet, like I said the old IGA isn't doing it anymore under the new owner.

Just one? Jeez Mark it takes about three a year to feed us. Fixed the last roast from last season right before bow season began. over the past nine months we have consumed three deer, four turkeys and a mixed bag of pheasant, quail and chuckar.

We can eat some wild game at the ole Tipton household.

Not to get too far off topic,but I was looking at the telecheck results totals for deer by county and it looks like the western third of the state's kill total is way down compared to past years.Bluegrass region counties seem to be leading the state,of course this might all change in modern gun season,but best I remember the western counties usually were leaders behing the perennial Owen county.

KYfanatic- my buddy at Barren River ran into the local CO and he had confiscated one of those "autoloading" blackpowder rifles for closer inspection(and evidence in court). Turns out it wasn't a blackpowder at all(GO FIGURE!!!!). Expensive venison for the perp!.

I keep the buck to for eating. I always put two in the freezer sometimes three. The wife doesn't like three though as it cramps her freezer space.
