    Re: 10-0

O.k. did some research. one more win and Calipari breaks Rupp's record for first season consecutive wins.

Also found out something else, I've always heard that Rupp was a racist, I wouldn't know because he was forced into retirement the year I was born. Guess what, for all the haters out there, He was the third coach in the southeast to have a black player on the team. only vanderbuilt and auburn recruited black guys first. So the racial thing may not be correct.

All hail the Great "Wall Of Kentucky"

Also for the haters that watched the game, how many times today did the commentators say championship caliber and Kansas better look out

You should have done better research:

He said, ‘You've got to beat those coons,’ He turned to (center)Thad Jaracz. 'You go after that big coon.' . . . He talked that way all the time. . . A chill went through me. I was standing in the back of the room, and I looked around at the players. They all kind of ducked their heads. They were embarrassed. This was clearly the type of thing that went over the line." Frank Deford, Sports Illustrated, reporting on Coach Adolph Rupp’s halftime exhortations in the UK Wildcat’s locker room.

"Harry, that son of a bitch is ordering me to get some niggers in here. What am I going to do ? He's the boss." Harry Lancaster, long-time assistant to Rupp, in his book Adolph Rupp As I Knew Him (Lexington Productions, 1979), quoting Rupp on Dr. John Oswald, UK President.

“Once, I was on a flight with Rupp and sat with him in the first-class section. He had about six Kentucky bourbons in less than an hour and was about halfway to the wind. I told him that I was an attorney who represented some basketball players. Now, I had never met the man, and the first significant thing he said to me was, ‘The trouble with the ABA is that there are too many nigger boys in it now.’ I sat there just stunned. That just killed my image of Adolph Rupp the great coach. Maybe it was because he had too much to drink, but even so...” - Loose Balls by Terry Pluto, Simon & Schuster, 1990, pg. 241.

    Tip of the iceberg.

LOL the third in the entire SEC LOL. The northern most school in the SEC is only the third to integrate the basketball program? LMAO and what a fine individual they landed.

Sorry if you think Rupp was not a racist, you probably think Gov. George Wallace was not either. Also, just so you know, Louisville had racial problems back in the day, most notably a racist fight with fans and Seton Hall back at the old Armory!

O.K. I stand corrected on the racial beliefs of Rupp. But from most UL fans that's what you hear. UK is racist. Back in those days the whole country was. Cal has tied a record that has stood for 79 years

Rupp may have said some racial things, but that was common talk during that time. Although, I am sure he said many things that would get him barred from the sport today, he was far more liberal thinking than the rest of the SEC in terms of racial integration. Before any SEC teams had any black players, Rupp wanted to recruit them, but it was not really tolerated in the SEC. Some other teams, actually wanted Kentucky and Rupp out of the SEC for even considering recruiting black players. KET just aired a documentary on him, and they were reading actual hate mail letters from local fans and even athletic directors from other schools in the SEC sent to Rupp about his attempts to encourage the SEC to allow black atheletes. He coached high school basketball before taking on the UK job, and coached several black atheletes during his time there. So it really wasn't so much of a problem with Rupp as it was with the majority of the SEC. Then once black atheletes were allowed in the SEC, it was difficult for him to encourage them to attend UK, because of all the hate they would be subject to, especially on road games. He finally convinced Payne from louisville to attend in 1969, and even in the early 70's, fans from teams like Tennesse would chant racial slurs at him (I am talking the majority of the crowd). Rupp was just a product of his time, however, much more forward thinking than hollywood, or folklore want you to know about.

I still hope Cal. surpasses his record for starting a season, maybe add a couple banners in the next 10 years. What a turn around from last year.

I still think the country has a problem with racism. Not as bad as it was but most def. still a problem.
Coach Cal is showing the NCAA and the fans that he is the real deal. Very exciting to watch!
