How to stay warm??

I just put on a ton of layers. I don't have any expensive long underwear, but I do own 4 long underwear tops and 2 bottoms and I wear them all. Top that with another shirt, sweatshirt, coveralls and jacket and I don't have any problem staying warm.

It's the hands that you can't do much for.

One thing I noticed, the hand holding the rod gets the coldest. Maybe it's because you're holding the metal where the reel connects. I may wrap that metal with some sports grip or something to help cut the cold.

I use neoprene gloves Tirolean used to have some but can't find them any more, used to a company maid some called HOT SHOT you can't find anymore, last pear I got was at wal-mart they were neoprene on the back of your hand and kind of a sponge rubber palm the thumb and for finger were split and you could Velcro half of them back and exposed half your fingers I cut them off and removed the Velcro and cut the middle finger half way down, just remember to turn them inside out and super glue the stitching so they won't unravel they are the best to keep your hands warm, even if they get wet they will stay warm, not much for running if your driving the exposed fingers will get cold, I have a large pair I put over them, try um I think you will like them

p.s. don't get them too tight

Gethenet and Mhall - I was just funnin' with you . It can get real cold standing in the bow of a bassboat, that's why I took up icefishing - it doesn't seem as cold and you can dress heavier (and climb into a shanty if you have to ). Check Army Surplus for some arctic gear. There's some pretty nice stuff out there, and it isn't that costly (esp compared with a BPS or Cabelas). My D-in-law is in the Air Force, so I get mine at the BX. Anyway - I have had some luck with WD-40 keeping the ice out of the guides fishing Steelhead in January and February. Might be worth a try.........

Somebody mentioned last year about this time to put on some lotion and surgical gloves, then a pair of wool gloves. I've not put my self in a position to have to try this, but do find that a spinning rod in the winter is much better than a bait caster.

Don't know about the lotion, but I've seen alot of guys do the surgical glove thing. I'm pretty sure Billy aka (redneckshadrap) does this all the time. I have not tried this yet but some guys swear by it.

70 hp & no windshield, I didnt see any comments on the sav-a-face mask, any opnions?
I usually carry a helmet w/face shield which is the best for me in the rain etc. With a ski mask.
Here's the one I like the best, feet: totes slip over rubbers over tennis shoes, wicking socks wool socks, feet as warm as toast, mobility is so much better an if u ever go overboard, zero weight. No one will beleive how warm an comfortable, its been under 20 here already lots of mornings,

oh yea winter golf gloves give warmth and good feel, for rod handling
lined nylon joking suits, give me more warmth than long johns, easily layered, light

I have a pair of neoprene fishing gloves made by Shimano. I don't find them to be very warm, but I do use them occasionally.

I have a full face sheild I got from Tractor supply. Its clear, typically used for grinding and sandblasting protection. The face sheild will flip up out of your way when you need it to and it has a screw type tightening band to keep it on in the wind. About $15.00 at tractor supply, have also seen them at Harbor Freight. The one at TS appeared to be a little heavier duty.

I too have a pair of neoprene gloves that keep heat in even when wet, kinda like a wet suit glove.

This year however, I got a full standup enclosure (sides, aft and winshield extension). Fish off bow platform in front of winsheild and off the stern with the curtain open. Have a Mr. Buddy propane heater to heat the enclosure up to get out of the cold for a bit. I don't run with the heater on, just trolling, drifting or at anchor.

Sometimes my wife will tag along and there is nothing like good old body heat!!! With a wife there no one looks at you funny when you sit close.

I have put my normal winter gloves on over the rubber dish gloves when handling fish. My gloves don't get wet. The water runs right off of them and my hands stay warm. I own those fingerless gloves and put the dish gloves on under them when casting. Sometimes i even put on Jersey gloves, the the dish gloves, then the fingerless. It helps me manipulate the line and fish and still keep my hands warm.

I agree......that Mr. Heater Buddy is the best thing since sliced bread. Well worth the money. I camped in November and that thing had me sweating in my 10 man tent. Kicks butt.

Man some of thse ice fishing huts are like condo's. Looks more like a man cave!!!
