Question Where Can I Buy Bamboo?

A buddy and I are thinking about growing our own bamboo for building crappie condos, if we can find somewhere local to buy some. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction?

if you look around rivers and creeks you can find alot of it.if landowners will let you cut it..there is a few acres of it here on my neighbors farm,i used to cut it for bank poles.but i doubt he would let anyone get it.

thanks for the response, I am actually looking to either buy some or dig up some to plant. In the future I will have more than I could dream off and enough to share with others.

On interstate 71 heading south right before the Watterson look to the right, there is a ton of it growing right there. That stuff stays green year round, pretty cool.

If you do grow some, be careful what kind it is. Running bamboo is extremely invasive.

Some of that stuff got planted along a highway in the town where my parents live, and the town has been trying to get rid of it for years.

The guy across the street from me has quite a bit growing in his yard that I am pretty sure he would love to get rid of. real tall. It's in Louisville.

find contacts in local area. I did it years ago with intention of growing this invasive plant but felt it was gonna be too much work for me to control it. Thick plastic barrier and concrete about 24" deep if remeber right. It is some neat stuff though if you have the land. Biggest Stand I've seen is on HWY 1526 right before Maplehurst Golf Course in Shepherdsville. The property owner may let you dig (or just cut) some, won't hurt to ask

I am going to grow some in the spring the ones I planted in the fall died because of the cold weather and not mature enough. I got mine from Conley Bottom of Lake Cumberland as you go in they have a bunch growing in the woods. Mine is nothing more than for looks because my wife is Taiwanese, so you are welcome to it when it grows if you need any and cant find it. Like others mentioned not good if you have neighbors close by it can take over in a hurry. Also not good if you have kids because if you cut it down with lawn mower as it grows in to the grass you have very sharp shoots sticking out of the grownd every where.
