    Achilles Heel

I tore the Achilles tendon on my right foot...doctors opted not to do surgery because of where it tore. I have researched this injury online, and a I'm curious if anyone that reads this board has ever experienced (or knows someone else who has) this kind of injury. I guess I am wondering about reinjuries, rehab, and long-term effects. Really, any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance,

    RYM

Had a deer hunting buddy have this happen to him. He is younger than me and athletic, runs alot ect. Because of this he recovered fairly quickly but it still took him months to get back to reasonable normal. They did operate on his, and he was down for a few weeks, then alot of rehab. It did not look like fun.

Also once you are up and going again don't push that thing very hard as they are suspect to re-injury fairly easily, take it slow.

    Good luck.

Re-injuring it is what worries the most. I'm athletic too...love hiking and playing basketball competitively...but it looks like I'm going to have to slow it down some after this. I'm just thankful that it wasn't a shoulder or an elbow that would keep me from fishing... Hopefully I will be back on the water by mid-february. Thanks a bunch for the information...

Man I haven't had that injury but have had several from playing sports. The older I get the more they remind me to take it easy.
Family Doctor says I got old farts disease and I should realize that so now I don't go 100% when playing basketball, softball, running or lifting. It does catch up to you.
I guess the xray last year on my knee really made me slow down. I thought I really messed up that time. Luckily it was OFD.

I have a question or three about OFD...what age does my risk increase of getting this? Is it contagious? Genetic? I think I may be getting it....starting to go to bed by 9 oclock everynight...waking up at 530am EVEN on the days I can sleep in....I'm even watching the Weather Channel more than ever before. Any help is appreciated.

Man I thought about this...You can fight it.
    1) Start buying your clothes at the fancy named stores in the Mall...sure you pay more but it's necessary.
    2) Gotta get your pants 3 sizes too big so they are dragging the ground....no belts allowed.
    3) Hat has to be worn sidways at all times.
    4) Add "like", "ya know", "know what i'm saying" into your vocab.
    5) Sorry but you must listen to hip hop at all times...holla!
    6) Watch MTV to get the latest in young attitudes.

These are just a few but I'm sure they will help. Some of the old fellas like Tim and Mark might be able to help more than I.

Well since I'm the oldest I'll weigh in.
Don't fight it just accept it with open arms
Start listening to talk radio and watch the weather channel and news as much as possible
Fish and Hunt as much as possible it doesn't slow it down but it helps to make it more enjoyable and it takes your mind off of it.
Go get a physical, get everything checked including the index finger exam, just relax it's quick.
Just have fun with it and don't fear it, it's not so bad, but things hurt alot more, physical and emotional.
Last but certainly not least wear whatever makes you happy just don't do one simple thing.

NEVER, Ever, Ever wear colored dress socks with short pants and tennis shoes.

Geez, I didn't even mention the talk radio...it sounds like this OFD is some pretty serious business. I thought for awhile about the things DJD said I could do to fight it...but I was zero-for-six on his suggestions. I think I'm screwed.

Fishing does seem to ease it...maybe I should start hunting again. And Sweet Baby Jesus as my witness I will never be the dude in colored dress socks with short pants and tennis shoes...I hope. Thanks for the laughs fellas...
