    Re: Black Spots on Bass?

I had a GREAT day two years ago at Jacobson Park yes Jacobson Park and several 2Lb bass had black spots on them. Very pretty but my guess is something they eat. I caught 27 keepers that day in a few hours fishing from 2-4 Lb and only the 2Lb bass were spotty. I have seen many out of KY lake that are spotty as well on TV shows.

I have caught several LM in Dale with these black spots, in some cases the fish wa nearly entirely cover with the black stuff, looks like a fungus to me, but i was told it was the LMBV(largemouth bass virus). Several of the fish at Dale that had a lot of this on their body, were definitely not healthy. I have seen several LM floating dead or near dead with this stuff all over them at Dale over the last few years, not great numbers but 2 or 3 a year.

I caught a lagemouth at Dale Hollow last fall that had a lot of dark spots on it. I ask a guide that I saw that evening at the One Stop about the spots, He said that when the bass are on wood they get those spots.

I have caught a lot of "black spot" bass from Barkley lake. Seems like we catch a few every time we fish there, and they all look very healthy.

I went for a couple years without catching a bass out of Barkley that DIDN'T have that black spot.

    (All 3 of them)

If anyone catches a largemouth out of barren and has a black spot on her bottom lip and one circle between her eyes, please take a picture. She was 4 pounds two years ago and I miss her.

This one got my interest, as it was posted here and on another web site. Did a little Googling and discovered "Hyperpigented Melanosos" is the defination used by the TWRA.

    Re: Black Spots on Bass?

The site that Boone posted would seem to make sense in this situation....I've never personally caught a fish with these black blotches but I don't fish the lakes you all are talkin about much either....Seems that it could have something to do with the water or something in it....If most or all of these fish come from the same lakes wouldn't that make sense....I'm no biologist but that would be my guess
