Toyota recall

1999 Tacoma. Rust recall. Had 218k on it. They gave me $9700 for it and a rental to use until things got straightened out. Picked up a 2010 Tacoma a few weeks back.

Dustin's was a Toyota, I didn't clarify that earlier. He just parlayed that into a new 2010 Tundra. A $36,000+ truck that he drove off the lot for $22,000 and some change.........

Buy Chevrolet. There is a reason guys that trail boats all over the country pull their sleds with Chevy's. Best pulling truck on the road bar none, been around and seen it in person too many times.

Also right now there is no better warranty than what they are offering. Compare gas mileage to, Chevy and GMC and they beat most models out there in similar vehicles. Let's get AMERICA moving fellas.

I have no problems whatsoever with GM products. I drive a Saturn and one of my favs was the 85 GMC Jimmy I had that I finally had to part ways with. As for those commercials with Howie Long however, if you look at the fine print they beat some of the models they are comparing their product to by 1mpg and it's not even both city and highway. That's negligible in my opinion.

Yea I know, but I still like ole Howie. I know alot of the rice burners are built here in the US but I just can't make myself buy one. I have no issues with anybody that does, but for me I'm gonna stick with American products.

Hey fair enough. I'll give each manufacturer a fair shot except Chrysler (my wife for some reason just refuses to look at any of their products - and I know when to pick my battles....this won't be one of them). There's just too many to keep getting burned by one. So far, only one has really let me down, so we will not be making any more purchases from them. In our driveway now sits a Saturn, a Ford truck (it's paid for is the only reason), and an Acura. The Saturn is up to about 200,000 and it's just too small for me. I'll be selling it and getting something a little bigger - all options are pretty much open right now.

Howie was with Teri Hatcher for a good while - now she's got some mileage but well maintained so he does know a thing or two.........

You didn't tell me you bought a brand spanking new one. The Grizzly is gonna get airborne now.

Looked at a few used ones on the lot. Not much cheaper than a new one. They hold their prices pretty well. Last one I got new and ran it until Toyota took it. Figure I'll do the same for this one. Built in California, so I guess its a foreign built one

I love Teri Hatcher, she has always been hot. She's ageing quite nicely to.

We bought a Dodge Minivan for me as a work vehicle years ago and after we got it I started hearing that the tranny will go out around 80K...ha they were wrong it went out at 65k. We replaced it and sold it for a Ford Windstar about 50k later.

Side note: The Dodge drove NICE! I loved the feel of it and a minivan isn't a babe magnet but my old Lab Ben loved it cause it was easy to get in and out of.

The Windstar drove ok but was in the shop ALOT and was noisy. We had two of them and both left people stranded in far away cities. No big deal cause it could happen to any vehicle right? So far none of our Toyotas or Hondas have done that. Anyway I got rid of the Windstar and got the Highlander.

When a company vehicle is down so is our money making capability. So it is so important to have a historically solid vehicle on the road. So far that is Chevy, Toyota and Honda for us.

If Toyota made a comparable vehicle to a Chevy astro for our techs then we would switch those too! We have to have rear wheel drive tech vehicles cause of the weight they carry.

I thought for sure one of you guys was going to say you had a Chevy with frame rust issues but you all aresaying it's the foriegn jobs that had the rust issues...this reminds me of the 70's when Chevrolet had HUGE rust issues...back in 1973 through 1975 or 1977 or so. Do any of you remember the GMC brand of trucks, the Beau James Series, The Gentleman Jim Series? This trucks, along with the Scottsdale, Cheyene, etc, had big time rust issues. Heck they were'n't but a coupld of years old and they started rusting out. I was in my teens at the time but some of the older fella's that owner these trucks I heard them talking about GM buying foriegn steel to build these trucks because it was cheaper than American steel.

They could build them in Valley Station and employ half my neighborhood and they'd still be foriegn to me. I guess I'm stubborn in my ways

I know that alot of problems with rust back in the day was from welding panels together instead of having one continuos piece on the sides of the vehicles. I believe they have better manufacturing equipment so large pieces of steel panels can be mass produced now.
Ever notice how alot of rust on vehicles happen around seams or if a window or weld is above it? Usually bad seals and rustproofing during the welding process. Alot of older trucks had that problem especially if they were an extended cab with that little window that didn't operate.

Toyota's problems are mounting.....now domestics need to take up the slack. Unfortunately my career is in need of a boost....Sadly enough Toyota may have provided the spark. 8,000,000 vehicles possible and now the Pruis brake problem...Not only here, but in Japan as well.

We'll see how it turns out.

Yrs ago Toyota shipped all trucks to the US without beds....Bed were produced and installed in California.

Ahhhhh the chevy astro. I drove one of those in the teenage years. It was a 5 speed manual, a rarity. Loved that van.
Hopefully this recall will drum up some additional business for you Billy. My wife and I were discussing that the other day....
