Warranty Stories.........Share the good/bad UGLY on ROD warranties.

I've had a ton of different rods.......a TON.

If any knows me, I'm also pretty dang hard on equipment........

A few years ago, I started using Loomis Rods simply for the warranty. I was skeptical at first, but I've used their warranty 5 times. Those 5 warranty claims would have cost 1000 bucks to replace the rod with a new rod. Instead, I spent 150........NOT bad.

My other experiences with warranties, include the following:

    * AllStar - Lifetime Limited Warranty. That basically means, you're SKREWED. I tried to use that warranty on 2 different rods. One the finish was clouding up in cooler weather. Water was getting under the resin. They told me this was NOT a defect and not a warranty issue. NO GO. The next All Star issue was a broken rod.........plain and simple. I broke it, I ADMIT it. Again.........NO GO. They said it was my negligence that caused the break.

    * Galyans Brand Rods - Lifetime warranty. Well we all know Galyans doesn't exist any longer. Well, I took in a rod.....their HIGHEST quality rods were about 150 bucks.......The Rod seat was broken, clearly a warranty issue. Since Dicks purchased Galyans, they no longer carried that particular rod. AND the had no record of my purchase, so I was SKREWED. NO Warranty. They did offer me a 20 dollar gift certificate..........I told them where to JAM it.........

Those are my rod warranty nightmares.......

    Later,

    Geo

I don't have the x tra $$$ to spend on the higher end rods and reels, but if you stay away from the cheaper BPS equipment you can get some good stuff with no questions asked warranty. I have taken back several rods with no reciept and they have gave me a brand new rod. I would not advise anyone to buy BPS reels, but have had no problems with them on the rod warranty.

Bass pro makes decent products however I cant stand most bass pro shops rods. The power hump does not feel right with me. If it wasnt for that I wouldnt mind. The best rods nobody uses is Browning. Bass Pro owns the rights now and they always had a great warranty. The cheaper rods are some of the best for the money. Shimano also has a great warranty and their cheaper rods are a great deal. But Loomis is tops in my mind. Everybody sells them so if you move you can still find someone to send it in for you. And alot of times if you ask nice you pay the shipping upfront and they will give you the same rod off the shelf to use that day. Had that happen more than once. Backwaters is especially good about that.

    Shimano
    Browning
    Loomis

thats what I stick to for the most part

Carrot Stix - took it to the local dealer, and they gave me a new one, no questions asked, same as Cumara. Any dealer that carries these should give you a free replacement.

Like you guys I've had success replacing broken Shimano's and I have also had bad luck with Allstar. Had a Berkley series one rod break and couldn't get them to replace it.

I had two Castaways replaced this year and only had to pay for return shipping. I called their customer service, told them which rod I had and which rod I wanted to replace it with. They asked me if I had any other castaway rods and I told them about a 6'2" spinnerbait rod I had but rarely used. They said send it with the broken one and we will switch it out for another rod if you want something different.

I don't break any rods because I don't catch fish plus don't use them for hammers like Geo. I am trying to figure out how in the hell George breaks so many rods because he catches less fish than I do. If I don't catch ANY and he catches less than me, somebody do the math. He must break them casting White Buzzbaits in Sugar Bay in October. Embrey just spit up Pepsi all over the computer screen from laughing so hard.

Purchased a Shimano Compre rod from BassProShop and have broke the rod twice. Each time I took it back and they grabbed another off the shelf no questions asked. I don't think they carry that rod any more, so it'll be interesting to see what happens should it break again. Probably will have to ship it to Shimano but the rod only cost 80.00 so shipping both ways I'll probably just bag it it's not that great of a rod to me anyways........
