    Green river dam

Went to the green river dam and fished yesterday. The water was a little high and fast but in nice shape. Fishing was VERY SLOW. Was there because I was told that folks had been catching them there recently. Did see one guy catch about a 5 lb eye. ( Lucky devil ) Tried get a little info out of him as I had never fished there before and needed some advice, lets just say he wasn't in a talkative mood. Been trying to catch a walleye in Ky for about three years now and just don't seem to be able to break the ice. LOL Anyhow thats my report for what it is worth.

Didn't see the lake but the water in the river below the dam looked good with good color in it.

Hey Perk. For what its worth, use grubs or 3" craws on 1/4 jigs. Fish tell ya the color.
Ya gotta put in face time before many folks will talk much. Just the way it is. The regulars around there are some great folks, just not going to give away info to everyone. Gotta realize alot of folks come once to "slay em", and expect the regulars to show them how. Put in the time, it'll happen.
    Best of luck.

Thanks leakingwader. I am sure you are right. I have always thought that fisherman ( fisherwoman) were great people. Went yesterday again and just sat and watched everyone else. Did try and I think I snagged one but he pulled off.

I never have been able to understand fishermen that aren't willing to help other fishermen out? I don't care who you are, if I am catching fish and I see that you aren't, I'm going to help you catch fish. Just the way I am. If that involves giving you a lure, sharing some bait, or just giving you some tips.....I'm going to do it. JMO.

I consider helping other people catch fish funner then me catching fish. Of course, I prefer to do both! It's always funny to watch a fellow angler's face when I offer them a lure and refuse to take money for it. That just goes to show how self-centered fishermen have become. To bad.

    Re: Green river dam

Not sure how much help this will be as I have only fished down below the dam once or twice if I remember right and it has been a while at that. But if you are standing in the parking lot facing the ramp, take off down through the woods to the right and there is a little slackwater area down there that might be the ticket to catching a walleye.

I would use a chartreuse or yellow curly tail tipped with a minnow or a chunk of nightcrawler and cast up stream and bump it back to me. Or chunk a rapala (the deep diving jobs not the pencil (original) style ones) and let it tick the rip rap on the bottom.

Also if you do the Tebbs bend loop thingy there is an access road that will get you down to the river and near a big deep slack water area that might hold fish.

    Good luck.

    Smile Re: Green river dam

Had the boys at Elkhorn Creek last Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, a young man walked up to us as we were catching and releasing Ky's every other cast. We were using medium "minners" under a float. He watched for a few minutes then stated he did not have the tackle to fish the way we were fishin. I proceeded to stand up and dive in the bag and gave him a couple hooks, sinkers, float, and some "minners". He caught several Ky's in just a few minutes. Made my day to see that young man catch a few.

It wouldn't be advisable to walk down through the woods from the dam....anybody from around here knows what im talking about
