I believe the LSS-1 is just a add on to the HDS unit for side imaging and downscan. So tack on another $700 to $1500 for the HDS unit.

At $ 600 bucks the Lowrance LSS-1 is pretty affordable. With the imaging being the same technology as the more expensive units, is there a reason to not buy it. I fish the same 3 lakes over and over so my thoughts are once I've located the structure, do I really need the waypoint feature?

It is affordable if you already have a HDS unit but if not you have to buy one the LSS 1 is just a add on feature, the humminbird si unit is a much better deal.
a hds-7 with insight and lowrance structure scan will cost you 1700.00 if you buy it from { star marine depot } and they do not charge any tax. I have one, and I think it's the best 1700.00 dollars I ever spent. At $ 600 bucks the Lowrance LSS-1 is pretty affordable.
