Well , looks like Evansville favorite fishing hole , Bluegrass FWA , is going to be overrun with people keeping as many crappie as possible thanks to a Phil Potter acticle in this sundays Courier & Press . Me & my brother had good luck last year with crappie at Bluegrass but no limits and not many nice ones period . Thining the herd , so to speak , works good if you have a limited number of predators but the numbers of people in the Tri-state and Evansville who fish there will quickly clean it out . Dont think so ? Drive by the ramp on Booneville-New Harmony rd. any Sunday next month and see how many trucks there are .

If they are bank fishing, good luck getting to a good spot once the weeds start growing. I'm more worried about my bass. I fish it mostly during the week so it isn't going to affect me that much as long as they put the bass back!
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The best thing local fishermen can do is STOP talking about Bluegrass. The more you talk the more people will want to try it out.

Everyone should call Phil and thank him for telling everyone about the fishing at Bluegrass! J/K
According to the article the next three years the crappie should start getting bigger and fatter. That sounds like a good thing to me.
But I'll have to start finding more spots to fish as if there are too many people there my fishing spots may be occupied before I get there.
I'd like to catch some 1lb crappie myself. I need to restock my freezer with some crappie fillets this spring.
I ran over to look around Bluegrass and didn't see anyone fishing any of the pits except there were two boats on Otter Pit. One guy fishing the North End of the Pit down on the East Side and the other guy fishing the East Middle area of the pit. But it was raining Saturday and it was in the 40's with a little wind. Only the die hards are out fishing on days like that.
Can't wait until it warms up this week. Should be getting up into the 60s on Thursday and Friday.
It was getting way too much hype long before this article in the Evansville paper..........
If you guys got the same thing i did out of it, its thats theres not a whole lot of big crappie in it.. i dont really think thats going to bring anymore people in than usual. He could have left out the bass part, but oh well. If you live in evansville and fish alot you probably go to bluegrass.. We do talk about it alot here to, and i dont mind talking about it because i dont think theres much to hide. Its a nice place to fish, i know alot of other places that are better and those are the ones i dont talk about it.
I guess I'm just different. If it's state funded property then have at it. It should be used the way it is. There are very good bass in there and okay crappie. I think you should share about bluegrass. If it's private property then keep it to yourself by all means.
Looks to me like this is more about fishing etiquette. Some say keep your honey hole a secret, in this case it appears the WHOLE lake is considered a honey hole to some, which is fine, to each their own I suppose, and yet others appear to share their info like myself. I got a thread going right now where I've shared what baits I use at Patoka. My take on this type of etiquette, its really all about the fishing. As one of my favorite musicians says "Don't get too high on the bottle, just a little sip every now and then. Fight your fights, find the grace, in all the things that you can't change. And help somebody if you can. And get right with the Man." My favorite part in that line is "Help somebody if you can." But the whole Chorus line of the song is right.
You COULD do a Google search on fishing etiquette and get numerous results. It's a heated topic evidently. I found an article by doing that search, and it has 22 rules to fishing etiquette. I found them outstanding rules and one of them, rule number 19 - "We educate fellow anglers, especially new participants about fishing ethics." In my opinion, the trick isn't to keep a good lake a secret, but to spread the word on how much distance you should have from other anglers. I myself like to give other anglers a MINIMUM of 200 yards to do their thing. Sometimes though, even that flares tempers.
Doesn't matter how much pressure it receives now, it will still remain a quality fishery with some very nice largemouth bass in it.
I've been to bluegrass 5 times in the last week and a half now and people are hammering crappie right now. Not really my cup of tea but they've moved up and are going crazy. I've caught a lot on spinner baits and traps while fishing for bass.
any decent ones? from my experience at the pits, i just can't get quality sized crappie. my biggest was maybe 1.5 lbs. sure can slay the small ones tho.
