    A little Rough River help

I'm taking my dad out Saturday to Rough River for some crappie fishing. Anyone have any insight on what the crappie are doing (deep or shallow, lake or creeks, etc.) and a good area to catch a few. Thanks for any help. Dad would be tickled if we could just catch 8-10 keepers for supper.

The crappie bite had been pretty shallow until this last cool spell we had. Went yesterday and most the fish were 10 to 12 ft. deep. Stayed till dark and late in the evening i caught some in 3-4 ft. It would be my guess that with the rain comming in again that they will still be a little deep Sat. I was able to catch more fish closer to the dam where the water was more clear. I fished up cave creek early and not much luck on crappie but did very good on bass fishing parallel with the bank with a crankbait in 10 to 14 ft. As far as finding crappie don't be afraid to ask the others out there fishing, everybody likes to talk about cathing fish. O yeah every crappie was caught on a black and chartreuse crappie tube sometimes tiped with a minnow if the bite slowed. Have fun aint nuttin' like going fishing with dad.

I was out on Rough the last two days, and we were definitely not alone! Lots of people out enjoying this great weather. Talked to several crappie fishermen on the water. All stated success. They seemed concentrated on the main lake, shore-line structure. Water is a little too murky up the creeks right now. Most were using minnows in what looked like about 10-15ft of water. Look for any fallen trees or brush piles along the shorline, should find some there. Also, be prepare to hook into some 5-7lb hybrids with those crappie minnows! Watched a crappie fishermen pull in 5 of them on his long spider poles! Quite the fight! Have fun!

Oh yeah, water temps got to 56 degrees yesterday afternoon.

I have had really good luck near the mouth of Tool Creek Lately as well as the horse shoe on in Tool. Wouldnt go past the horse shoe though unless water came up alot the last couple of days it gets shallow quick. Just look on the left when entering tool and you will see an old tree root wadded up and fell into the lake start there with minnows and white zoom grubs with 1/32 lead colored heads fish real slow with the grub I caught a 13 inch there last week first cast of the day Just make sure you get there early or stay late.
