I have a Crucial drop shot rod....7'2 and i love it....very soft tip and enough backbone to get the hook in em....also use them to minnow fish with during the winter and have caught some nice smallies....so theyre definately strong enough....hard to beat for the money and the warranty is the best

Re: Whats the best 7ft+ spinning rod?

I dont have one yet, but I am getting ready to buy a Crucial. I posted a sililar question a while back, most people suggested a Cumera or a Crucial. I went to bass pro while on a family adventure a couple weeks ago and played with both of them. I couldnt see enough of a difference to pay the extra money.

I first started read post on here and thought that most people worked for Shimano. I didnt own anything Shimano either. Then last summer I bought a Sahara spinning reel. I LOVE IT. I see why Shimano is so popular, you may pay a little more for it, but the quality is there and isnt there a old saying about you get what you pay for? Just my 2 cents......GO VOLS

Curious as to why you are looking at a spinning rod for this. Throwing the soft plastic jerkbait I could see. The frog seems to be more of a baitcaster and a heavier rod. The frogs are pretty heavy and throw well, plus you use them in some very weed filled areas. Hauling a good bass out of the weeds seems like a job for a heavier rod.

BassPro Carbonlite is the way to go.

Andrew I agree the baitcaster rod is the way to go for me. I'm really looking for something that I can let my daughter or lady friends use when we go. I want something with alot of backbone, lightweight and enough tip to allow them to toss the bait. Of course I would use it when they are not around for other small weightless plastics. So it's gotta be something I can add to my arsenal.

Ahhhh, got it. I was scratching my head and had the same question as Andrew. Fishing a frog on spinning gear seems risky unless it's stout and spooled with braid. At the same time, I can see how a spinning rod would let you cast/skip a frog back in the junk easier.

Good luck with your search, Don. There sure are lots of good options out there.

Braid for sure! I have taken a few people out who use whippy Zebco 33 combo's which isn't even close to the tackle needed for frog or Dinger fishing in the junk. I let them use my smaller spinning tackle and it worked fine cause we were tossing tubes and small jigs around the weeds..thanks for the replies!

I bought a 7" carbonlite baitcaster a few months ago and it's so light it felt like a toy. Now, after using it for awhile I think it's the best rod on the market in that price range.

It is over 20 years old I gave like $80 for it then it is a blast to catch crappie and gills on and when you hook into that 4 Lbs bass hang on. Thats the biggest thing i have caught on it..

Any chance you still have that Browning Gold Medallion? I would love to buy it from you if you still have it.
