Let me put this nicely....whoever told you that is mistaken.

Some of you may have been there. Was told Fri. night at Nolin, by Game Warden, that there is a FEDERAL law that states you cannot fish within 150 feet of any floating structure. I knew there was some stuff going around for years about this, but I never was aware that it became FEDERAL law! When did it Happen? I dont know about you, but this realistically cuts out about half the coves I like to fish.(yes he said little docks too), although he said they wouldnt push that as hard.
Let me put this nicely....whoever told you that is mistaken.
kinda hard to do that since by definition the boat youare fishing from could be called a floating structure...
Would a navigation bouy count as well? That would cut out a lot of water on many of the larger lakes.
I don't know the law for sure...BUT, I find this very hard to believe...could be wrong, but I just don't believe it.
With a gas pump, yes or a sign that says no fishing backed by the local government as well, such as the marina at Ky dam village, but even then can turn boat around and throw away from them, the docked boats that is.
Keep in mind... just as with carrying a gun... if a sign is posted and they ask you not to fish, but you ignore the sign or verbal warning, they cannot get you for violating any law except criminal tresspassing... this applys to private property like marinas that are not state owned... besides a federal law like that would be more of a violation of teh 10th ammendmant than our healthcare snafu...
Guess I'll have to sell my house boat since I can't ust it to fish from. Also better get that little dock off my pond. Is this Tea party propaganda?
Got the REAL answer!!!. This is pure Bull S*** that this is a federal law restricting fishing from "any floating structure". I copied this from the DFW wed site. Applies to ACE lakes and is an optional policy of the marina operator that leases (pays the ACE to opperate a public marina). Basically the marina is considered property of the leasee as he is the one paying the rent and he has the option to restrict fishing within 150 feet. This actually makes sense as the can be a lot of traffic in and around the dock ant they may not want the congestion of boats obstucting traffic. So any Floating structure is just pure Bull S***. Big govment is out to get us!!!

a marina?

Public marinas
on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Lakes have contractual agreements
that address lease space on public
waters. The Corps presently allows
the marina owners or operators to
post signs that prohibit fishing within
150 feet of their floating structures.
These agreements do not prohibit
a person from fishing in their boat
rental slip. This policy does not apply
to privately owned boat docks on
Corps lakes.

KYDONKY - Where did you get your answer.
I was not at wax this past Friday night but was told that a Fish and Wildlife officer told the group fishing this tournament this regulation. I was told he stated that this law applied to all floating docks, private or public! I, find this hard to believe, but was told this week by a buddy that he called the Nolin Lake Dam and they backed this rule that it applied to all floating docks and was enacted on specific bodies of water, Nolin being one, something abour COE Lakes? Was tols lakes such as Barkley, and KYLake do not apply!
If that was the case you wouldnt even be able to fish some lakes hardly.Even if it is a law I would worry no way they will enforce it.
I agree, but if a game officer believes this and issues a citation, which some will, then it will involve paying a ticket or being out the money and time fighting the charge.
