We saw the same thing on North Ky Saturday morning. From what I could tell and what the guide that we were with said, they were skipjacks. We did catch a few around the same area that they were busting the surface in.

We ledged fish for most of Sunday and, was blown off the lake Saturday, and did some late night fishing friday.
Friday......Poplar Creek Area.....Caught lots of fish, but not too many keepers. Spinnerbait, shakeyhead, texas rig, etc, etc. Tried to fish some deeper "ledges" but I **** at that.......so not too good Friday.
Saturday.......Sugar Creek Area.......caught fish in and around ledges around the Sugar Bay area.......Wind got too bad for us to run the lake, so we pulled off and headed to South Barkley. Put in at Donaldson Creek. We caught fish, but no serious fish. End of the evening, we managed the largest fish of the day in 1-2 ft of water on spinnerbaits.
Sunday.......Pisqua Area...........Got on the water REALLY early. Hit Ledges on north KY as much as we could. Actually found a couple that were not marked on my maps. Caught some fish, but still learning.
Embrey was much better at "following" the ledge and staying where we need to fish. I basically don't have the concentration to fish, shoot the crap and run the trolling motor![]()
. MOST of my buddies know this already though. Embrey is learning it

Weather was decent, but we COOKED in my aluminum broiler yesterday. Black Aluminum boats tend to do a great job of slow smoking fisherman.
Carolina rigged watermelon seed soft plastics pretty much all day. I don't believe I caught but 1 or 2 on deep crankbaits.
I do have a question for anyone who wants to answer...........
Early in the morning fish were HAMMERING shad on the surface near the ledges we were fishing. Sometimes they look like white bass, other times they looked like shad feeding, or maybe skipjacks........Whatever they were, they didn't want to eat if they were bass or whites.........
Any ideas what they were??

Geo

Saw the same action SAt and Sun had a two day club tourney went out of Kuttawa. We saw several jumps, and my partner caught one keeper bass in those jumps. There was a mixed bag in those jumps, there were skipjacks, white bass, caughrt several of these and also largemouths mixed in, we caught around 20 in one school all were 13 to 14 3/4 in. one keeper in the bunch. They were busting schools of fry and those fry schools were huge. I have never seen so much action in a long time, they were busting everywhere but no large fish were with or under them. We ended up with two keepers Sat and two Sun with the largest 3.5 lbs, It came on a shaky head in less than 3 ft of water, her tail was red as it looked like she just had spawned out. It was so hot both days and like Geo said the wind was bad Sat. We fished Barkley SAt and KY sun, they did not pull current Sun until around noon and we had to ck in by 1.00. BUt a bad day fishing beats a good day at work anytime.
Sounds like you are spoiled.....need to head back up NorthWe ledged fish for most of Sunday and, was blown off the lake Saturday, and did some late night fishing friday.

van dam took all the keepers out of the lake, and its way too hot to fish all day for 12 inch bass
Hear you, same here in the Cumberland Area!!! Switching to Fly Fishing the in early, did I say EARLY in the AM, yes, for trout on the Cumberland River and then LATE in the PM for the EYES. Still, just got to get the striper boat out a few more times in the EARLY AM. Once the sun hits the water, it's all DONE! By 7:00 am, got your limit or not, it's time to to GO HOME and fish another day..

Seen Geo operate the trolling motor while trying to stay on a ledge - close proximity to a ledge - somewhere in the same area code of that same ledge - anywhere on the same lake north of the 68/80 bridge around the same ledge and it is not a pretty sight. The only thing worse than Geo on the trolling motor out in the wild blue yonder trying to follow a piece of cover or structure under water - IS HIS FISHING ABILITY. Geo's partner from the back of the boat might make a cast out in front of him onto the ledge and before he has worked the C Rig in, he has worked it around Geo's head - TWICE, caught it in the trolling motor - TWICE, had to raise the Mercury to get it out of the prop - TWICE, set the hook 4 times and not hook any of them, and then get it back to the boat only to sit and wait 20 minutes for Geo to realize that he has now drifted 100 yards off the ledge. Just ask Kansas Dave and Embrey, they will tell you. Heck ask me and 3sons, we have seen it as well.

I really get to talking and after the BS starts to flow, my ability to troll follows....I really don't have the concentration to stay on them. Same thing happens when I'm float and flying at Dale......before I know it, I'm ON the spot we're trying to fish.
Funny thing though........when I'm by myself......I do MUCH BETTER.
Oh well.

Geo
I undertand George I can do the same thing sometimes. I always catch more fish when I'm by myself, because I'm more focused and less ratchet jawing. But hey Ratchet jawing with your Buds is fun to so keep on doing what your doing as long as your having fun.I used to like both of you..........![]()
