Most of the parents get their kids into soccer because of a thing called EXERCISE. The schools are filled with kids so fat you can't tell if they are walking or rolling. There is a girl on my daughter's team who lost 55 pounds playing soccer and she has become one of their best players. The reason Liz started was because she had friends playing and it was the only game she hadn't played in other than football. She is 5'9" and weighs 119 pounds and those long legs can put some serious speed on a soccer ball. I don't think soccer will ever be as popular as the three major sports but it has a good following. There is a huge soccer field here where several teams can play at the same time. Teams consist of children, teens (male and female), adult women, and adult men. I have seen some fierce competitions and those guys are tough. I think ESPN is pushing the World Cup, first of all, because of money that is made from the advertisements/sponsors and, second, because soccer is popular in many other countries. jmo

Bug we were just having a little fun, any organized sport that keeps kids outdoors and teaches them discipline, teamwork, and bonded friendships is alright by me. It also keeps them off video games and the Puter which is all good.

    Just having some fun,

    Mark
