My son who I didn`t really get to know till he was in his early 30`s bought me that 85 Champion that had been sitting for 11 yrs. I had been waiting till Icame into some money from my dad`s will to buy this boat. The lady had been holding this boat for 6 weeks already. Well my who`s name Doug too,is moving back here to Shelbyville has been staying with me while he was looking for a house to rent. Well I was telling him about this boqat and the trouble with the lawer holding up the money after 11 monthes,,and out of the blue he hands me 1500 for the Champion and says lets go get it. Well I was almost in tears and told him I couldn`t let him do that,,,well he`s just like me! (here`s where you all feel sorry for him,,,LOL) but he told me happy 54 yrs worth of B-days. I told him i would pay him back when i got the money,,,nope he wont take the money. So we got the boat,,he helped his POP get her ready,he filled the tank up,,,and my truck. We took her for a spin,,,ran great. Well tonight we was out and he said he needed to stop by walmart and pick a few things up. He grabs a cart and headed to the sporting goods,,,he goes gets a new trolling motor battery I needed,,,I told him no,,,but he told me to shut the ---- up and enjoy!,then it was a fuel seperater, then a new trailer dolly where the old was shot,,he then came back and helped rewire to troling motor where the power coad was roitten from age. Then he went to Auto Zone and picked some other stuff up for the boat,,,we got the trolling motor working perfect,,everything on this Champion works like new. I`m sitting here about in tears thinking of what a kind and good son I have and I love him to death,,,he has turned into such a greqat man and holds so gurges againest me, we get along so great ,and he`s so much like me it`s scary,,,the only thing is ,,he didn`t get the fishing gene like me..so all I can say and do is to tell people HOW very very PROUD of him I am,,,LOVE YOU DOUG!

Enjoy each others company !
Thats awesome Doug. I'm happy for you two that you could leave the past in the past & look to the future. I never had that oppertunity with John (my real father). I gave him a chance several times & he pretty much shrugged me off. His loss, not mine. He died several years ago & will never know what might have happened if only he would have tried.

Doug, I'm glad you and your son are growing closer by the day...You 2 certainly deserve it and it's obvious he's just as giving and kind as you are...I'm glad I got to know you and was able to help you out earlier in the year...By the way, that boat looks great man!!! I know you will take care of it, you certainly deserve it!
Doug, I dont know you extremely well, but the times I have been around you, it seems that your son took after his dad.
