Was planning on trying my luck below Mc Alpine tomorrow, does anyone know if the ramp across from the lower dam is open? My last few trips it was closed, not sure why.
Thanks..
Ramp is closed. They are supposed to be putting in a new ramp ramp, but they haven't started on any work yet.
the only ramp open is new albany and middle creek,,which I wouldn`t there,,Don`t have a clue when Greenwood will open back up,,,
If it takes as long to build a new ramp at Clarksville as it does for Ky and IN to build a bridge on the Ohio, we're all toast.![]()
So you wouldn't put in at New Albany? is the ramp still in bad shape?? Looking to go this weekend...
Thanks
I think Doug was referring to the Middle Creek ramp.
I can launch my Stratos from the New Albany ramp as long as the lower is above 10 feet. And as New Albany is now the "only" ramp on the lower, the parking spots will probably fill up quickly.
Thanks for the reply, saved me a trip to Greenwood.. Fishing was extremely slow, fished for hybrids below dam and hydro first couple hours of light with not one bite. Then fished for catfish with shad (couldn't catch a skip-jack) till noon with one 3lb Flathead. The ramp was a little rough due to the low water but managed to launch aluminum bass tracker with no problem.
I work in the area, they are upgrading the ramp, and parking lot. Don't know what the hold up is, still surveying land I think. Ground was to be broke about 3 weeks ago. Prob has something to do with money.
Hey to all.
Don't forget Salt River Ramp. Yep, its a little longer run than from Greenwood.
But here's the pluses.
a. Tons of easy access parking.
b. 3 buck ramp fee.
c. On site security 24X7
d. Wide gradual ramp in Salt River....very little current to make ramp in a problem or ramp out.
e. Parking lot very close to ramp, no major hump up a steep access road to get to it.
f. Coming down Dixie 31W, you pass Peppers for bait and tackle on the way to the ramp.
g. Small gas station very easy to access less than 300 feet from access road to the park and ramp in West Point.
Problem is not money, but rather some other issues that have popped up.
Existing ramp will stay in place - new ramp will be added to the "circle" and will face downstream to make it easier to launch/load against the current.
Engineer broke ground, got to looking at the existing ramp, and asked the Engineer why the ramp was designed at only 4" thick when the existing is considerably a lot thicker.
Well, long story short, the Engineer is doing a redesign with a thicker section.
Also, IDNR has some issues with the installation methods - the use of articulated block (aka ArmorFlex) is being placed in lieu of just dumping rip rap. The ArmorFlex can withstand high flows and is less prone to getting washed away/moving. The method of placing them in the water is an issue that's having to be worked out with IDNR.
Construction should be finished sometime in late Sept. or early Oct. depending on weather.
artcarney_agr,
Very informative reply. Thanks for the info.
