    Angry cumberland river

my fr5iend launched my boat with his 4x4 this morning. Weather forcast called for cloudy with showers by afternoon. By0800 I was soaked, ande it wasnt getting better. Called it quits at 0900, did get 4 trout and my buddie, new to the river managed one.The shore was lined with buzzards feasting on dead stripers, did see one floater walleye. Gonna try again maybe monday. Saw 6 of those blue water racing boats coming south on 55 as I was heading home.

well my clothes ought to be dry by monday morning, so gonna give it another go on the river. The guy I'm fishing with is going for shoulder surgery at the e3nd of this month, and wants get a little fishing in. It will take a little doing, but I hope he picks up the knack of artificial fishing. He does some guiding on dale and is strictly a live bait guy.So he can pay me back this late november on some smallies.

Wondering if you launched at helm's and if my dirrections helped you find it. Planning on skipping out of work one day this week and heading out myself. Don't care much for the shallow flow, but I dig cumberland so much I'll take what they give me. Your buddy's probably chompin at the bit to get back most newcomers do.

Subject to change. They had three of those drain gates open this morning and running 3 generators. So fishing was sort of bad. When we put in at 0700 the water was at the end of the ramp, when we left it came up 10 linear feet.

Awh man my favorite time! Love to go with the flow seems to turn rhe trout on in my opinion. Before the dam repair began we'd have 20 or 700cfs then they'd give us 10'000 to 17,000 plus in a matter of hours and we would slay some nice big bows and browns. Alas those were the days. Generaters seem to be back firing this year from the poor quality of water in the lake. Had a couple of my slowest days down there this summer during generations apparently due to oxygen levels in the lake.

    Re: cumberland river

Having fished the river for years at burkesville, could deal with some flow, but having a rookie with me, it made it pretty hard to deal with. The thing I hate about the current situation is the murky water color. I could have switched to a larger shad rap, but hated to see those almost 8 buck baits getting hung and lost.

I hear you there the murky water I'm afraid is here to stay, I still stick with the #5's just adding some differant colors this year. They still find them the larger baits haven't really helped me this year as I those were my thoughts exactly. did try a new bait new to me anyway with some sucess it's 2 for 3 on the fishin trips and they were slot browns. Did loose one at $12 a piece. And your right about the $8 shad raps. Helps to be able to get that motor fired up fast and try to save them bad boy's. I should be a diamond member with Rappala as much as I support them. I'm hoppin to skip work Thurs. and give er a go.

    Re: cumberland river

you may want to try the flicker shad baits, they cost about 5 bucks at bass pro shops, the craw colored ones work pretty good on the river, if you do any trolling. I have been taking the front trebles off the baits, they dont snag as much, and I havn't noticed any difference in the hooking, plus one less set of trebles to worry about. thewre is an old guy who trolls the river below burkesville who takes the front trebles off of his rapalas and he hangs some nice trout, but he mostly trolls.

thanks I'll give those baits a try. Although been using same techinques and baits for 20 yrs on the river quite successfuly. I'm reluctant to try anything new. Every now and then I'm struggling to catch a trout, but to stubborn to change. I've found a unique rattle trap thats been catching some nice browns and the dinks have yet to hit it. Getting hung up hasn't been that big an issue with me I do lose one on occasion. Being able to get motor fired up and back upstream as quickley as possible is a big plus. Scared to alter a rappala as they work so well, however I have imbedded that front hook deep in my fingers before so thats somthing to think about. Haven't tried any trolling just go with the flow cover a lot of river and get in as many casts as I can. Didn't make it down this week had family issue to deal with.
