Its 2 stroke and electric or pull start. Pack a battery or pull a cord, your choice.

Its all 99 model, boat mtr and trailer. I bought it all new and hate to part with it. It has sat in the weather and needs new trailer boards and carpet on them and someone to fish out of it. Intrrested? Send a PM and we can take it out for a run.

Be careful how quickly you turn with a small boat and a larger motor.Almost flipped my first boat years ago, and it only had a 16 HP. Boat was 16 ft. 48 in. wide.

Re: 14ft jon boat ? about motor 25h max. hp

When I bought my 17' Alum boat from BPS back in 2003, it was rated for a 115HP but BPS only would put a 90HP on it. The guy that sold me the boat said that BPS does not max out the HP on aluminum boats due to safety reasons. I could have taken the hull elsewhere and had it rigged with a 115HP if I wanted to but BPS would not do it. Consider the Safety aspect more than the legality aspect in your motor choice. Saving a few $$$$$ or getting a good deal on a motor will be no good to you if the hull can't take the additional HP, especially an older hull. Even with my 90HP motor I have had several cracks in the metal - no where near a center beam or joint even though it is an All Weld Hull, and I think it is due to the high waves at Ky Lake and the fact the boat will still flex more than a Fiberglass Boat.

couldnt agree more with elnutt, i have a 15 ft bass tracker john that i use to catch shad in. i have a 20 hp merc that is just downright dangerous if you arent on your toes. i guess the short answer though is whatever you can insure ?

A second issue you can get with over-motoring a jon boat is trailering. A larger motor will put more weight on the back end which could mean little or reverse tongue weight. The back will sway if you don't have enough tongue weight. The rear weight may matter in the water too, and cause the front end to ride too high if you can't adjust down far enough. The difference between a 25 and 30 might not be enough to matter much all the way around.

Thumbs down Re: 14ft jon boat ? about motor 25h max. hp

The reply about insurance was correct. Running a motor the boat wasn't designed for would
nullify the insurance company's liability to pay if something happend.
Also a thing called "chining" which would limit control of steering the boat may happen if
    you full throttled the engine.
If none of these things matter then go for. I personally would not.

    What about a 25 tuned to 50 on a 14-48?
