Got out for a couple of hours this morning - it has been a while, and had a great outing! Of course nothing beats the big fish of the spring here, or perhaps a good ledge bite in the summer (I just hate the heat) - but this time of year is my favorite. It is almost like hunting - searching for shad. I mainly focused on secondary points, and looking for balls of shad on the sonar. On my second point I pulled up on, there was a pretty large ball of shad, so I backed off and started fishing. Had about 20 fish in a little more than an hour. Only a couple of keepers, one being about 3 pounds - but it was a blast. The funny thing is I couldn't get bit at first on shad pattern - crankbaits, spinner baits, even tossed the spoon out there. Once I started dragging a jig and carolina rig under the bait, I was getting hammered on almost every cast. I caught them on this one point like this for a while from 3 feet down to 15 feet.
The jet skis were still out, and so were the pleasure boats racing up and down the bay - but I bet it won't be long before they store those for the winter. As far as being comfortable (weather), relaxing, and enjoying fishing - Fall down here is my favorite season

I was on Ky - I don't know why, I'm fishing a small club championship out of south barkley in two weeks. I never even made it across the lake - I stayed on the West side - actually never made to far from Big Bear - and caught the bulk of my fish in Big Bear. I love Barkley in the Spring - but in the fall, I usually stay on Ky.
I am glad to hear I was not the only one that had a tough time on Barkley this weekend. I was out on my Kayak. I don't know what the water temperature was, but stepping into it felt like bath water.
That's not to insinuate I am happy for your bad luck.
I just got back from a 3 day trip on ky and had a blast... And our bite came on barkley... couldnt get bit at all on ky... bet we caught 75-100 fish on one spot and some of the fish we nice ones... couldnt get bit at all on the crankbaits or rattle traps.. but picked up a jig and smoked them...

Glad to hear someone caught them apparently all the fish in the lake went to your spot! out of 7 boats there were 8 bass weighed in! All from guys who live on KY lake and most of which practiced to no avail Saturday. These guys can hang with the best of 'em and it was dismal to say the least and the word shot through that KY bite was hot and Barkley was not! I can say this - there wasn't a roadbed with out a boat on it.
Well we tried ky side for one whole day and caught 2 fish with only one being a keeper. Then on Saturday found 3 banks that were loaded up with good fish. But we noticed that Barkley was 5-7 degrees cooler than ky and we think that's y we took more bites on Barkley
