I haven't used them for a few years(the plastics is much easier to deal with)but the uncle josh had a small sideways slit which made it fairly easy to get off if you made sure you put the hook through the slit when you put it on and turn the chunk sideways the hook would come right back out.

Best way to use it? deep fried with a dash of tobasco. Havn't used it in a decade. But when I did it was usually the black 4 or 5 inch leech.

I havent fished with them in years but the best way to get them off the hook is to stop by mcdonalds and pick up a few coffee stirs slide one over the barb and the rind will pull right off.

They have a small slot cut in the tip of it, use that. Then you twist it upside down (into the U of the hook) and the barb will slide back through the slot.
