Geo, you might want to verify with the KDFWR that it's OK to carry a loaded shotgun during hunting season without a hunting license.

    Geo,

Not an expert. I'd recommed a non-lethal form. A pair of mace cans and a night watchmans billy club on a wrist tether ought do the trick. You don't want to defend yourself only to have to defend yourself in the courts. Punks do sometimes have lawyers.

Shot gun I'd steer clear of because if they close on you quick you may not have time to deploy it. And worse, if they close quick, they may end up in possession of the shotgun you planned for your defense. Handgun, means permits, and what happens if a stray round hits an unintended target? From what I've seen of you, you'd have a harder time living with that than with a couple punks getting a rod or 2.

Last thought, for what it's worth. Refuse to use selected ramps unless you are accompanied by a buddy. Or a tactic I have used, if a friend can't go, sometimes I'll offer a beer and a burger if they just meet me at the ramp for ramp out, then when that's done, its off to brewski land and burger time.

At any rate, agree with the deisre for protection. And sorry to hear the 2 smucks gave you a reason for concern. Stay cool, and as usual as you always do, just logic thru it.

About 2 months ago the house across the road was robbed and was done about 2 PM my son was ridding his dirt bike I was in the garage working on my truck and the wife was in the yard swing well the girl got home and ask us if we seen any one and she had been robbed , Long story short The county sherriff came over and i ask him " Were do i stand if they try this here at my house" He said to get my ccdw permit ( I do have it)this would help a bunch he also said what ever you do do not shoot any one in the side or back because they will say he was trying to get away from you you will get a charge and he said to be the best witnes you can be. I have herd so many rummers about you should hide or run away he said B.S. if there in your house there paid for and or if you walk out to your garage and he/they run at you there paid for just do not shoot any one in the side or back.

I think about what i would do and another thing you have to deal with is your own mind can you handle taking some one elses life? What if he / she is only 12 - 16 years old.
One last thought here GEO what ever gun you do buy go out and shoot it shoot it alot then shoot some more practice taking from your holster and shooting it. Alot of people buy a gun seldum shoot it and when they do they cant hit a thing .

Glad you are Ok man you can read the KRS: laws online but what ever you do get Your CCDW

A LE officer is not going to look in your tackle box unless you give him a reason to. The livewell perhaps, but not a tackle box. Alone on a ramp late at night, the cavalry is not coming to your rescue.

I solo backpack in some very remote hollows in KY and sleep a whole lot better with a firearm in the tent. There's an old adage that asks, "Would you rather face twelve jurors or six pall bearers"?

see ,that is crap. if someone is IN my garage or house, i should be allowed to blow their head off,no questions asked. i dont really want to wait and see what they have for me or care to ask what theyre doing . they arent supposed to be there and they knew that walking in.

Read SplitShots post guys. Very informative. I recommend you guys check out a show on Outdoor Channel called The Best Defense, or go to the forums at downrange.tv... a lot of good information from very knowledgable people.

Remember that a gun is only as good as the training that comes with it.

I agree with the LCP as an everyday put in ur pocket pistol, that's what I carry. Same ammo and holster as Splitshot. When I'm on the ATV I carry a .38 snubby with hollow point +p. I have my .357 loaded and ready to go by the bed.
I been shooting alot lately with my LCP since I put a crimson trace laser on it. I got it where it needs to be so that little red dot is my focus point.
We are pretty fortunate here in lex with Buds shooting range or a trip to wilmore to hit the sportsmans club.
It's best to get very familiar with your weapon of choice. I like the laser idea because u might be in a situation where your on your back or falling or off balance and all you need to do is see the red dot and shoot. No worries of looking for sights.

Re: What do you carry on your boat for Protection.....

when im bank fishing i always have a little >32 cal pistol with me , on the boat ive never carried anything.

ive had my hand on the pistol a few times when walking to various spots i fish from the bank. ive never really had an incident where ive felt i needed it on the boat.
