Here's an idea. The Honor Guard that fires the 21 gun salute should have live ammo and adjust their aim to fit the situation.
Chalk one up for the Weston, Missouri community! Sent that pack of publicity hunting morons packing.
That's awesome to see that for once someone effectively silenced that "congregation" of inbred filth. I've always thought that there's got to be some constitutional way to bar those protests. Yes they're entitled to express their opinion, sick and twisted though it might be, but I don't see why that has to include the freedom to scream hatred at a grieving family while they're trying to bury a loved one, a military hero to boot. It should be a crime to disrupt a funeral, no matter who's being buried. Freedom of speech can be abridged when there is a compelling reason to do so.
Awesome.
You can probably google him and find out more details. The basics: Phelps runs the Waitsboro Baptist Church in Kanas. Through his own missinterpretation of the bible he has decided that 9-11, and soldiers deaths in Iraq and Afganistain are due to God hating fags and he is punishing the US for harboring gays. Phelps and his followers (most seem to be related to him) show up at funnerals of soldiers killed overseas and protest. Based on news stories that I've seen, this often includes young kids marching around with signs like: "God hates fags", "God hates America", "Dead soldiers are punishment", etc. Pretty wacked out if you ask me. He has been doing this for several years at least. A couple years back a motorcycle gang started showing up at funnerals of soldiers and putting themselves between Phelps and the actual funneral in an effort to allow the family some shelter from the taunts of the wackos. There is at least one law suit against Phelps for interfering at a funneral.

It's actually "Westboro" Baptist. And BTW they're not actually associated officially with the Baptists, they just call themselves that. Believe it or not, their website is www.godhatesfags.com. Yup, you read that right. And that "motorcycle gang" you referred call themselves the Patriot Guard Riders, and when they show up at funerals to protect the families, they do so as invited guests.

No problem. As you can probably tell, I absolutely LOATHE that organization, what they stand for, and most of all what they do. And I really do believe (or at least HOPE) that there is some constitutional way to stop them from spewing their hate-filled vitriol upon grieving families who are in the process of burying their loved one.
Another town takes on the Westboro Baptist morons.

Now they're saying they're going to protest at Elizabeth Edwards' funeral. These people truly have no shame.
