New limit on catfish at Taylorsville

How the hell am i supposed to dodge jugs that i can't see?....hell the only thing worse that could've happened would have been for him to shine his spotlight in my eyes before i set it down off pad and ran up on the bank or something.....I have no problem with juggers at night, none whatsoever, but you should either put your spotlight on your jugs when you see a boat coming or put lights on your jugs....don't sit 100 jugs right in the middle of where everybody runs, pull up on a bank, and sit there in the dark until somebody runs into them...

My comment was not directed at you or anyone in particular and it was not meant to justify someone setting out 100 jugs at night.

While "some " state laws state this please point out where Ky even hints of this, I'm unable to find it .

I can't find a KRS or KAR reference to it but years ago when I took the hunter safety course the game warden speaking to the class mentioned that when hunting each person was supposed to keep their kill seperate. He went on to say if several people were dove hunting, put all the birds in one pile and he came upon them that he would say there is no way to know who shot which birds and everyone would get a ticket for being over the limit plus he could confiscate all the birds. The KRS and KAR references to daily possession read the exact same for both hunting and fishing.

I wonder what it would take to get an official statement on this. I know when I go fishing I just throw all the fish from everyone into one cooler. Of course we almost never reach the individual limit much less the combined limit.

If someone is still setting out 100 jugs in Kentucky then they are breaking the regulation change that went into affect a couple years ago that limited jugs to 50 per boat. Still 50 is a lot and the current in the lake can move the jugs quick. I've had jugs move over 500 yards away in an hour. I make a point at rounding them up every hour or so and grouping them back together just to make sure they don't cover the lake.

And a windy day makes it an absolute b!tch to keep up with them. But...BUT...on windy days you cover more water and I actually catch more fish. The only drawback is if it's making it white-cap. It's hard as hell to see them dipping in and out of troughs. I fish with 30 max...usually around 25 and that's all I care to put out.

You are right with the birds. I know while duck hunting each person must have his birds separate from everyone elses'. However, you are comparing animals to fish. Dove and ducks are also federally protected animals. Many differences in that regard.

It's one of those gray areas that no one can agree on. Some states do require personal fish limits to be separate and identifiable, but others do not.

Another issue is the possession law. With ducks, your daily limit is 6, and your possession limit is 12. If you have more than 12 ducks in your freezer, you can get a ticket. You have to eat those ducks or give them away before you can go back into the field. However with fish, many say that it's different, that fish in the freezer don't count towards your possession limit.

I wish a news article, or an episode of KY Afield would address the limit and possession laws in regards to fish, because there is too much misconception out there.

Yeah, but there are guys out there that believe that if you have two people in the boat, then 100 is perfectly fine.

Taylorsville has so much catfish in it, I can't imagine it needing
a limit. I think it's over run with catfish.

I may have overshot it....that DA may have only had 50 out, but when you stretch 50 jugs over a 100 yard area reaching out into the middle of the lake it's quite ridiculous....I don't mind trot lines as long as they are set properly and marked....I've set the hook on several trot lines bass fishing but I don't get too worked up about it....Now if somebody drops one where i could possibly get into it with my prop then that's their fault and I hope somebody cuts it and sinks it

Since the same game wardens manage both fish and wildlife, it seems they would have the same policy for both.

I can help clarify this with reference to the KAR. The possession limit only applies to unprocessed fish. Once you gut them and remove the head there is no limit on how many you can keep in your freezer.

"Daily creel limit" means the maximum number of a particular species or group of species a person may legally take in one (1) calendar day while fishing.

"Possession limit" means the maximum number of unprocessed fish a person may hold after two (2) or more days of fishing.

"Processed fish" means a fish that has been gutted and head removed.

if i dont run across a bunch of trot lines with my motor this year ill stop frowning on it. juggin and trot lines are both lazy ways to do it if you ask me.

Apparently you have never used a throw net to catch bait, baited and put out 50 noodles, picked up those same noodles when the wind has blown them out of your target, rebaited those 50 noodles after picking them up and moving them for the third time, go back and throw the net for more bait, pick up fish, rebait and put those noodles back out, and then when you are ready to go pick up everything. There is hardly any time for a break.
