Man I hope the Nolin Jumps take off like the past few years. I've been fishing Nolin for a long time and it seems to just get better and better w/ the Kentuckies and LM joining in.
What do you guys like to throw at em?
My bait of choice is a Pop-R, sort of green/silver bass/shad color. I keep a medium size Champ on a spinning outfit w/ 8# flouro for the long cast. I've also used a white crappie jig on a 3' trailer tied to the back of a Spook with or without hooks, the spook helps you get a longer cast, this seems to pick up a few more whites and a rare double w/ the spook.
We are between Moutidier and the Dam and don't have to travel far to get into them. Seems like the mouth of any major creek has action sooner or later.

I killed them on a pop-r type lure last year--caught 25 in about 30 min. 1 white about 2 lbs. And rest was l/m most over 2 lbs. If i would have had a better pair of pliers at the time i could have caught more in that 30 min. Thats one of my favorite ways to fish. I call it quick draw mcgraw fishing. The faster you can get the fish in and release it and get back out the more fish u can catch. Im always sad when the jump stops though ! Lol
There are jumps at Nolin?
I love to throw chug-bugs and flukes....It was phenomenal last year. Not sure how it could top it this year! I'm just hoping for a repeat...come on baby!

Has it started yet?
Im going to be @ Moutidier this weekend. If i can't find any main lake jumps i plan on trolling long main lake points with a deep diver and some kind of dropper.I guess in the lower quarter of the lake.I will keep a rod handy if i see jumps.Maybe with a 1/4 oz curly grub or rooster tail.
If any of you old veterans have any advice on presentation or location i would appreciate it.It will be my first time on the lake.
My early days on Nolin i put in at State park & went up the creek.Thats the 1st place i seen jumps. They were LM and a popr worked but i had too get it close.Over the years i learned about the whites and jumps.I used a inline spinner too wear then out.I aways stayed below the state park when running after jumps. They happen all the way up past Wax but i like it down by the dam.I have only been fishing in Ky now going on 7yrs.Out of all the lakes i like Nolin the best.So much that i'll hit the jumps this yr in my kayak.

I have been going to Nolin my whole life (24 yrs) and have never heard anyone mention the jumps that I talk to or fish with. I can remember seeing them one morning when I was about 12 or so. Anyways, I am headed down next week for about 4 days and am very interested. Is there any specific way to approach them if you do see them. I would just assume troll towards them from about 100 yards out or so, although im not too sure. Whats the best approach if you happen to see them on the other side of the lake where there is some distance between?
Looking forward as it sounds like according to you guys I might get lucky and catch them jumping a few times. Oh I forgot, I will be spending most my time between Iberia and Wax, any luck there?
When you see them try to get within 20 yards of the jump. Some jumps will be close together and sometimes they are scattered. If its a big jump a pop-r will work great but if the jumps are scatttered i use a little george type lure because you can cast it long distance. Bass pro sells there version of that type lure that is more detailed and looks more like a baitfish. Good luck jc
My youngest son, took my boat up yesterday, saw some jumps, he said they were not really a big bunch, seemed like the jumps were around 6-10
feet across. He did'nt know how to fish them, (i was at work). But, it appears they've started!!!! Tr
Went to Nolin yesterday....the shad are definitely out there in small groups...but it appears the bass have not grouped up yet. There were sparadic, single jumps here and there...but nothing that would be deemed "jumps" IMO. It should be starting ANY DAY!!! Water temps were 85 degrees and we caught a TON flipping along secondary points.
