If I had to guess the weed die off was caused by the high water we had this spring. I have also found that the fishing for me has diminished this year compared to last year there.

Anyone noticed that the grass has deminished at the three big pits at Bluegrass this year? Someone said that they thought that the weeds had all died or something.
Did IDNR spray herbicide on these lakes to kill the grass? Did the flooding this spring kill a lot of the grass?
I still see lots of grass growing in the other smaller pits as I drive by them.
My Friends also said that the lilly pads had all died at Bird Dog Pit. I noticed that there were no lilly pads there this summer.

Yes the high muddy water blocked the sunlight for a long time this spring and that could have killed some of the submergent vegetation.
Glad that you responded and confirmed that the weeds were gone. A lot of the shorelines were under water for a long time this spring.
i noticed it also. the grass at otter was pretty thick a month ago, i was using a frog alot, when there sat and most was gone
We had some flooding a couple of weeks ago but it was not as high as this spring. I'm wondering if the IDNR spayed some herbicide into these waters to reduce the weeds. I read that they do that from time to time in Bluegrass. I read this in the research notes page on the IDNR Fish and Wildlife web site.
The guys that told me that the weeds were gone fish Bluegrass a lot. I see them over there all the time.
