Re: Ohio River, first sm bass and a Mooneye?

Definitely a mooneye, they are in a small family, the other member is the "goldeneye". They have larger scales than shad or herring ahd don't lose them when you handle them. Great cut bait for blues and flathead. If you fish the OhioRiver, Ky River or any steams Peterson's Field Guide to North American Fishes is great to have in the boat

This is what I had read also. The scales on this fish were huge. And they did not flake at all when I handled it. The mooneyes eye was also huge, thats why I looked it up when I got home.

The other now that I have investigated was like said above, a spotted bass. I guess unlike the lm, it has spots under the dark patch line on the sides. I'm learning!

Should have kept that mooneye for bait!

Funny, both fish hit the same lure. Guess I have a favorite lure for now.
