    Proud Papa

I know its not about fishing but I just wanted to let you guys know that my 11 yr old son shot and killed his first deer Saturday. That day is and will be one of the best experiences/memories that I have with him. I am so proud that he spent the last 8 months target shooting, he is actually a better shot than his old man, and getting ready for his first season. All his hard paid off with a button buck. Congrats buddy!!!!

Congrats!! My daughter (now 24) started when she was 15. She has killed 12 deer and 3 turkey to date. I remember her first, come to think of it, I remember all of 'em. She LOVES to hunt. And like you, she can out shoot me (and most everyone I know). She has only lost one deer to date (last year muzzleloader, nice buck). I was with her when she killed an 18 inch 8 pointer in 2005. She doesn't look like your typical hunter but she is one!! Everyone should take a kid hunting, there's nothing like it.
    Congrats,
    Tim

It was a great day, I hope he stays with it because I am a firm believer that hunting and fishing keeps kids out of trouble. When I was a kid my parents allowed me to take the first week of deer season off of school as long as I kept A's and B's on my report card. I did and never got into any of the bad things that were presented to me. I hope to do the same for my son that my parents did for me, teach him good values that will carry him through, in the field or in life in general. Now that we got him a deer, I am going to work extra hard to get him that ellusive 6 lb Bass. Good sportsmanship to all.

This gives me some hope, I have been taking my daughter, now daughters out to set stands, dump corn, even took them tracking once. The two year old can fetch minnows from the bucket, and give the fish a kiss goodbye, still needs some casting work. Congrats, and just as everyone said, the smaller the better for the table

Congratulations to the youngan. I remember Austin's first deer. He was 9, now 11. It was a doe. He got his first buck this year. Those are the days you will never forget. Just to see how excited they get is unreal. It gives me chills thinking about it. And believe me, once they get one, they are hooked. Austin wants to be in the stand every minute that we can through gun season now. It is awesome. I am also a firm beliver that hunting & fishing keeps them out of trouble. Of course if most kids were like Austin, thats all they want to do. That & show goats at the fair & livestock shows.

Again a big congratulations to you & more importantly to your son on the nice deer.
