yes, and they started celebrating years early. how did 8 million workers know before Obama was elected, that there would be an Obama holliday, and started celebrating early.

If my memory is correct about 2% more decided to celebrate after Obama took office.

It must be dang near 50% or more judging by the traffic flow I experienced today.

I believe I read somewhere how after 50 some years after his death there's still a large divide in our country...not looking AT ALL to start a racist thread here...but dag gone, with the traffic flow like I saw today, how come I can't get a piece of the holiday action? I'm starting to get kind of tired of supporting others while they do nothing.

Then I was wondering just how much the government would save if they eliminated this holiday in it's entirety...which made me think probably not much cause what would the typical government worker be doing on a Monday anyway...probably not much.

You dont get the day off cuz you work for greedy rich businessmen who only want money, money money which is why your salary is higher than most gov't workers. I have seen documentaries on Martin Luthur King and he was a gentle Christian who was trying to change racism at that time. I think that was back in the 50's and 60's when it was bad in the south and segregation occured. I liked his speeches and he was against violence of any kind. The black panthers would do well to follow his lead. Unfortunately he was killed. I would have liked to see what he could have accomplished.

You know what my salary is? WOW!!

For what it's worth I have to make a pretty good lick cause if/when I retire I'm not going to end up with the insane benefits that a government worker will at the end of his/her career. I have to get it on my own NOW and be disciplined enough to set some back for later on. And I gaurantee it ain't no picnic.

I wish we call could live equally...heck, I really didn't want this to turn into an equal black/white thread. We have come a long way since the blacks couldn't drink from a white water fountain, etc...but at the same time there seems to be just as much racial turmoil to me today as there ever was...PLUS on top of that...we have whites out there TODAY (useless slug wanna-be, hat-wearin-sideways, can't-keep-my-britches-up-fools) who are not any better when it comes to wanting their "free" handouts.

Skin color doesn't make the man...nuff said.

No sweat...heck, you have the ball man, run with it, lol...in all seriousness I could care less if anyone gets off subject on any of my posts...I'm here to learn more than anything else...It's good seeing others opinions, it's good to see that sometimes others opinions are not to far off center from my own (let's me know I'm not as crazy as I sometimes think I might be), some people are just better at putting their opinions into words than I am

Gills, MLK was not a gentle Christian man as was portrayed in the media although they called him "Reverend." A certain black singer, who was his mistress was waiting in their motel room when he was killed. Jesse Jackson was also there but not beside MLK, as he alleged, when he was killed. When Jesse heard about the shooting, he ran to MLK, put his hand in the blood and wiped it on himself.

I was not in Memphis when MLK was killed, but I was in another city looking out my second floor office window when he was there and what he told the black men to do to white women, was not gentle nor Christian. He should not be given all the credit for changing segregation in the nation, he was just a mouthpiece. There were other blacks who accomplished far more but never received one word of credit for the hard work they did. MLK took all the credit that was due to the foot-soldiers and the blacks lifted him up as if he was some kind of god.

Now this is certainly disappointing to hear Bugsy. I thought he was one who was instrumental in changing racism in the south. Didnt he organize a huge march in Washington where he did his dream speach. That was very inspiring. But yes I certainlly saw him as a great man who attacked injustice and segregation in the south. Its sad to hear it was made up by the media. I thought he was a minister and a doctor. I know JFK supported him. I think the blacks are doing that with Obama now.
