You cant go wrong giving to RED CROSS because they will always show up to give aide. Cant say that about most other organizations.

I heard an advertisement on WKQQ where you can text "Red Cross" to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross to be used for Kentucky victims. The $10 will be billed to your cell phone bill. They are also taking donations at all Central Bank locations. If we all donate money, attend an event like artcarney posted, donate time or goods, it will make a difference. A lot of towns in Eastern Kentucky, especially West Liberty, were not luxurious cities before and suffered extensive damage.
My Dad's farm is in Campton Ky, a few miles from West Liberty. He had hail the size of Baseballs that punched holes completely thru his metal roof on his log cabin. All kinds of damage at his place and his was no where near what others experienced.

Texting the Red Cross like that goes to their general fund helping everyone, not just Ky.
Great organization! They have been advertising like crazy, last weekend they were promoting that same deal at the Brad Paisley concert.
No, the Red Cross will always show up to give some aid but take most of the money and supplies. When hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans people donated tons of money (I was one of them) to help those poor people. There was no accountability, thefts, and everything imaginable happening to the money and supplies. Some reporters said Marsha Evans, the person responsible for the Red Cross operations, resigned but we were told that she was fired at the insistence of President Bush. Remember he said, "Good job, Brownie," and then fired him a few days later? That had to do with issues about hurricane Katrina.

If I could offer any advice to donors, it is to watch your donations carefully and KNOW who and what you are donating to. Disasters are when the lowlife comes out and runs every kind of scam that is imaginable. There is something horribly evil about certain people who will take up donations for tornado victims and then keep the money, they will go to the disaster area and steal everything they can get their hands on. If I could have my way, I think I would tell the victims, "shoot now and ask questions later."
