Everyone has an opinion on this deal thats for sure.

Tim if they aren't getting hooked and harmed by this rig, why are alot of states regulating how many swimbaits you can rig on it??????

My guess would be because of the panic and over reaction to it's effectiveness and the mortality issue. Also not sure ANY state has changed their existing laws...just clarified the fact that only so many hooks of a certain size on a lure is allowed (Ex: Tennessee with the 3 lures has ALWAYS been that way nothing has changed) I've got an email from KDFW on the issue and they aren't changing anything until some SCIENTIFIC studies have been complete. They are also going to have questions on their annual surveys in 2013 for anglers to answer on the rig.

I talked to a buddy of mine at lunch who used it briefly. He said he did not like it because:

1. It was also heavy to cast and would wear you out.
2. It had to be casted just right or it would tangle.
3. He said although it was effective; to him it was not sporting.

The final reason was the main reason he said he did not like the rig. To him; he said it was not really fishing.

I kind of thought that when I saw the rig the first time.

LOL! "bassmaster tim" and i went live bait fishing this morning......to most live bait fishing isnt for the pros or its cheating or its tooooo easy ....hahahaha. live bait fishing like the a-rig still FULLY depends on understanding where, when and why fish will be in a certain place.
until you figure that out i dont care if your a-rig has 50 hooks on it.....you cant catch whats not there.
it took tim and i 3 hrs to figure them out this morning (they werent where they were yesterday!!!!) but when we did it was lights out. i begged , pleaded, hugged and threatened those shad to go find a biggun but they did what shad do.....die on the hook !
the a-rig isnt magic.......
it isnt for me for specific reasons.....but if you like it well....hold on im so tickled for you i cant type !

There's an art to casting it where it doesn't tangle constantly, and most aren't gonna pick it up within the first 30 minutes of throwin it....also if you have a rod that is designed to handle baits the large, it doesn't wear you out as bad as throwing it on a 7' MH spinnerbait rod

Same here.

Plus, if I hook one that looks like it's going to die, into the freezer it goes. The A-rig has been the greatest invention for meat hunters! I can't wait until summer when I can toss it into schools of white bass! Talk about a quick limit on those dudes!

That's what I want to try it on, that should be interesting!! I am hoping for three casts and done!!

ok well ill give it a shot just because its constantly staying on my mind and curiosity is out to kill haha but ifi start injuring fish quite a bit i will slow down on it. It sounds really cool, maybe ill try somethin like a 3 wire rig or so.

If your just going to give it a quick try then definately go with at least the five hook rig. It has a much greater resemblance to the bait ball than the three hook version. I've fished it quite a bit this year and have had no problems with fish mortality. I have had a couple that sucked a crankbait down in the gills though. A crankbait or rattlebait has a much higher risk of killing a fish in my opinion.
