thanks man, for the info. like I said the zero turns are new to me, I hadn't looked at Scags. I been looking at mowers on factory direct, they have tax free, and free shipping. they offer 18 different brands, but not a Scagg. I'm going to buy one, not stuck on any one brand. was looking for some input, here on the board. and I thank you for the reply.

I have a Dixon ZTR and would not trade it for any front engine mower. I have had it for 5 years and all I do is sharpen the blade and change the oil. Purchased it from Dixon dealer in Nicholasville but Dixon has been bought out and only other shop I know is in Paris (Ky). I can mow my yard in about 45 minutes and it used to take me about 1 1/2 hour simply due to having to stop in order to back up. With a ZTR you just spin around and get what you may have missed. It will take some time to get used to it, just READ the directions and BE PATIENT.
I have a Toro for my house and actually worked on a golf course while going thru college and used the same type of zero turn mower while i was there for several years. I loved it then and love mine now, i have a couple acres that i mow it doesnt take long at all.
The only thing i would say to you is that they are simply great on flat ground, but if you get on steep banks, they will tend to slide a bit before gaining traction. I actually had the one at the golf course slide down a steep bank on grass with dew on it right into a pond, not fun, but i wasnt the first to do it so it wasnt a big deal, haha.
Anyways great mowers for my money! I dont know what kind of Skag u were looking at but i would suggest not going with the ones that the seat is actully over single wheel that pivots under u. Not for sure about the actual type of mower this is called, but u will feel every little bump right up your back from the ones that i have used. not a very comfortable mower.
Take the same money you're going to spend for a homeowner grade ZTR and by a low hours commercial. I like the front mount Grasshoppers and Woods. I have an old Woods 6250 with a 3 cyl Kubota 25 horse engine, and that thing is an absolute brute.
thanks, for all the reply's. I've looked at, and read about, and watched a lot of videos on youtube about zero turn mowers. and I think I'll buy the Ariens max zoom 60" cut. it's a little overkill for the size of my yard. but it will cut down on mowing time. I've used a 38" John Deer for the past 11 years, replaced the battery about 3 times, and the belts several times. but the thing still runs like new. takes about 2 hours, twice a week. to much mowing time. need to change that. I'm old enough now, that this will be the last new mower that, I will ever need. so I hope I made the right choice.
