Lakemaster Maps of IN available now on their web site

I'm trying to figure out why they don't have Patoka Lake in Bold Print in this list. Bold is the High Definition Lakes and the lakes with the star by them are Lakemaster Surveyed Lakes.

Not sure where or how they got the survey data for Loon Pit and Bluegrass Pits in Warrick County but if they got it from the IDNR's web site I don't think I'll be buying these. There is no star next to Loon Pit Warrick or Bluegrass Pit Warrick.

I think that the cost of this map is $125 for the IN SDHC chip.

Does anyone already have this IN Lakemaster SDHC card and if so can ou tell us if the Loon Pit and Bluegrass Pits are very detailed. I've seen the maps that IDNR made and they were pathetic IMHO. They don't show all the drop offs. It's as if they missed a whole lot of the lakes depths and when they did their survey tracks they didn't cover the entire lake and didn't overlap the tracks much at all. The lake maps that IDNR produced and posted on their web sites looked like bath tubs in my house and I know for a fact that there is a lot of topo changes in areas of Otter Pit that are not shown on the IDNR lake maps.

I'm hoping that somone other than IDNR surveyed these two pits in Warrick County but I fear that the data is coming from IDNR. I personally watched the girl and guy that did the survey of Bluegrass Pit last year. I've got pictures of them doing the survey in my camera.

I checked the cabelas site and they didn't have the IN/OH Map just yet. But Johnson Controls, the owner of Humminbird and Lakemaps has said that the IN/OH map is ready soon. So be on the look out for these digtial maps.

I'll try to check around and find out what I can about the IN maps. I'm interested in the Warrick County Loon Pit and Bluegrass Pit and Patoka Lake, Bookville Lake and Lake Monroe. I don't fish the other lakes.

I wish that they had combined IN/KY instead of IN/OH. But these guys are from up North and I guess they prefer to fish OH vs KY. Big Mistake IMHO. KY has far more good lakes that OH. Ky Lake and Barkley Lake just to mention two of the bigger lakes that I'd like to fish.

I hate having to spend 125 bucks to get the chip for Patoka Lake and then another $125 for the KY lake map. That's a lot of money for just the two main lakes that I'd fish, Patoka and KY lake.

Yes I have the Navionics East Map Platinum from 2010. I have used it on KY lake but not on KY lake yet.

But the contour Lines on the Patoka Lake Navionics East Map are 10 ft apart from what I remember. And you can't adjust the water levels on the digital Navionics Maps as you can on the newer Lakemaster maps from what I read and understand. As Patoka Lake or KY lake rises and falls you can adjust the water levels on the Lake master maps. This way the contour depth lines are most accurate on the Lake Master Maps.

I fish bluegrass and Loon pits a lot since they are only ten minutes from where I live. I only fish Patoka a few times each years and haven't fished KY lake in years now. But I'd still like to fish KY lake a few more times before I kick the bucket.

So I'm hoping that Lakemaster did their own lake survey on Loon and Otter Pits but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen. Which is why I'm asking if anyone else has seen these new Lakemater IN/ON maps yet. I'd like to see a copy or demo of the IN maps so I can check out the contour lines on the Loon and Bluegrass IN pits. I'll know at a glance if they are from the IDNR survey or not.

It is my understanding that Navionics recently did a survey on Patoka and updated the map. I was told that they did the survey. Can't tell you for sure though. I have the card but I have not been on Pakota with it yet. I would be very surprised if they did their own survey of the pits.

That makes sense to me. Patoka being the second largest lake in IN would definatly be on my list of lakes to survey to make a detailed map.

Do you know when the Navionic people did the mapping of Patoka Lake? I have Patoka Lake on my 2010 Navionic Map for my Humminbird Unit. Did they do another survey since 2010? I think I probably have the newest map now unless they did another survey in the last year or so.

Due to having an older truck and the high gas prices I don't get up to Patoka as much anymore. I'd love to live closer to that lake.




Plus the lake was surveyed by the US Corp of Engineers and a topo map was made using the Indiana Plain (Plane ) coordinate system which is much more detailed that the USGS 7.5 quadrangle Topo Maps. The corps office in Louisville, KY had these maps on Laminate Plastic sheets that they could use to make blueprint copies of these maps. There are more than 30 pages of these maps that make up the Patoka Lake and the property around the lake. They used these maps to see where the lake would be and to see who owned which property so they could buy the property to make the lake. They have 5 ft contours and in some spots they used dashed contour lines to show the 2.5 ft contours. These were made the old fashion way using stereo microscope and combining two offset aerial photographs in order to get a 3 D top down view of the lake and it's surrounds. Pretty nifty. I had to learn to do this in my Physical Geology Class at the University of Southern IN. Back then it was ISUE. We made some simple topo maps with this technique in class with the Professor's help. I've been interested in mapping every since. Expecially as to how it relates to fishing. It's a quick way to find drop offs and other offshore structure to fish.

So I'm a Fugawi software user and I have the Navionics HotMaps Premium East Charts on SD which I also got from them. From what I can see, Patoka Lake looks pretty nice with 1' contours. Not sure who surveyed them but I would say that its updated fairly regularly.

I went to the LakeMaster Web site and looked around a bit. They had a list of the stores in IN that should be carrying these digital maps.

But when I went to the Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, Dicks Sporting Goods Store and Gander Mountain Web sites not one of them had the IN/OHIO Lakemaster Maps for sale ....yet. Let's hope that they will be getting them in stock soon and adding them to their web sites and store shelfs. Until then I guess I'll just have to wait to buy mine for IN.

It should say Lakemaster Maps, available to Northern Indiana. It doesn't even have Glendale (Dogwood) listed and that's one of the best lakes in the state. It's got a few Southern Indiana lakes listed but most reside in N. Ind. What a joke.

It takes Indianapolis a long time to get down here to this end of the State do map our lakes. All the Northern Lakes were done a couple of years ago. And I think that some of those Northern lakes had tighter contour lines as well. Might call them High Defination lakes

I'd like to know more about those Fugi maps and if they can be used with the Humminbird Map display. I was aware of them but not all the details.

KY Hydrographics makes some nice SI maps of different areas of KY lake and they use two other mapping programs to show them to you. ONe if Fugiwi and I can't think of the other one's name. You can go to Pat Hahs web site and find out though. Pat worked for Kentucky DF&W and did all the surveying for his maps himself with a towed sonar array and gps and computer. He overlays the topo maps on his SI images to make some really neat looking maps. I wish that the GPS system that he used had better accuracy as most GPS units today are only accurate to plus of minus 3 meter even when using WAAS. Three meters is about 10 ft and that's plus or minus 10 ft. Just saying that I'd like to see the US GPS system get better accuracy. But then our GPS units would cost much more.
