Cumberland fishing report.

Found some fish on the North bank trolling. Those were hitting deeper lines. But the action was fast and furious bottom fishing mid creek. We could not keep a full spread out at times. I have never seen the number of 18-23" smallies before and some of the stripers were more than my dad could handle. We lost four to him not being able to keep them from going under a shelf and locking him up. We got two more back by waiting them out until they came out on their own or we moved and pulled them out from the other side. They wore the old feller out, but he had the time of his life..

So remember kids, take a dad fishing....

Ah, North bank probably isn't a term many know I guess. I guess many call it the North Shore or North shore flats. It's the flats area from the Dam up toward Beaver and Otter, on the same side as the dam.

THIS time, when refering to creeks, I am talking about smaller creeks off of the likes of Indian Creek. Stripers tend to use the first section of the larger creeks like Beaver/Otter and Indian just as they do the main lake in the summer. But stripers are also using much more of the lake, creeks included, these days then what we USED to think they use in the summer. So think Middle Fork, West Fork, Browns, Railroad, Whiperwhill and the like when I said mid creek.

For 20 years in mid to late summer when its yime to die of heat stroke netting big gizzards in less than 20 ft of water in the very back of creeks soomer or later you would pull the net up amd there he would be......a nice big fat healthy keeper striper. And then you would scratch your head and think what is that fish doing here ? I think the answer is pretty easy.....alot of big food to be had. They have always been there in varying numbers, they areny always catchable though . I do think with the lower lake levels they tend to be "everywhere" more than they used to be. 3 straight days our limits came pretty quick on what i would consider a very august pattern.....but i aint arguin with em im feedin em ! Lol

yep, BINGO and You becha. The bigger fish get bigger because they are doing something different and it's logical to me what they are doing different is staying in the creeks, somewhere, and feeding on bigger bait (probably at night). I also agree they will probably use less of the lake once they bring it up again. There will be more of a temp/water quality change between the main and the creeks again. But it isn't all on the stripers. Bait is using more of the lake as well and Threads are looking better and better. I know "Threadfins" is almost a dirty word on Cumberland these days but I ended up with a bunch of 4-6 inchers and they outfished the 6-7 inch alewives I caught this weekend.

Well, the "creek" thing is just my view. I've seen many posts with "Creek" and wondered if they meant main creek or secondary. I guess it can be the same as primary point, point and secondary point.
