    US Postal Service

Just wanted to set things straight about the perceptions of the US Postal Service, the Govt and Media like to portray the Postal Service as being a drain on taxpayers which is totally untrue, the fact is the USPS is self supporting except our fine Federal Govt takes millions of dollars annually out of the USPS and uses in the General Fund.If the bloodsuckers would quit dipping into USPS revenue, they out perform private companies by a mile, they handle more mail at a cheaper price than UPS,FedEx,DHL,or others could/would ever do.
If the retards in washington have their way, they will close the USPS and it will cost us all a lot more to do business in the long run, sure we have the internet, and even though I pay some bills and do minor banking on the internet.I don't trust the internet because of too many flaws and Identity Thefts.
I guess my rant is because my father worked his tail off for over 40 years at the Main Branch of the Post Office in Cincinnati and it offends him to hear all the gaff they receive.

Yea, the USPS is so freakin great, yet the cannot pay their 5 billion in debt....

The world has changed......80 percent of the mail I get delivered to my home is ****. If the gubment would get rid of bulk rate garbage and advertisements, maybe they'd be able to DELIVER the freakin mail.

Really, how much mail do you actually get that is important.

Almost none. I sometimes don't even bother to check my mailbox for a few days.

Do you have any verification that gov. takes money from the USPS revenue?

There are no links, because it is NOT TRUE.

The USPS is in trouble because they **** and managing business, cannot compete with FedEx and UPS, and have horrible unfunded liabilities like health care and pensions.

The biggest reason the USPS cannot pay back the 5 billion is because back in 2006, the FED gubment told the USPS they must prepay 80% of their unfunded liabilities. This is to ensure that all those benefits for USPS workers can be paid in 20 - 30 years. Without those changes the USPS was on track to be bailed out. Hell, they still may need a bailout.

They cannot compete, and they actually SUED FedEx a few years ago because they were delivering "first class" mail more effectively and efficiently than the USPS.....yea, if you cannot beat your competition, SUE THEM.

    Gotta love it.

You don't even know 3what your talking about,I'll show you were they take revenue out of the USPS,but did you even read your own link? No,because the payment they are blathering about defaulting on is 5.5Billion in a fund for FUTURE retirees, now how many companies pay into a fund years ahead of time other than current contributions?
The USPS is self supporting always has been, doesn't get squat from tax dollars, the junk mail you complain about creates revenue for the postal service, where else can you send a letter to anywhere for.45 cents?

For some reason everytime I try to reply with a quote the reply box keeps scrolling away where I can't type or add links,USPS handles and delivers more mail than Fed Ex,UPS,and allthe others combined to your home at a cheaper price. I think mr geo hater better check facts before blathering garbage he has no idea about.
I've decided Geo your ego is bigger than your head which is probably saying something.

    Easy there cowboy.

Yea, I DID read my own link and then I read through the link you posted.

SHOW me please.........where the gubment redirected funds from the USPS to somewhere else.

I did see in MY LINK where it is a hell of a lot worse than I actually thought. By 2016 they will be 20 BILLION in the hole, with 5.5 billion of that being the unfunded liabilities of Health Care and Pensions.

AND you should expect the USPS to pay for their UNFUNDED liabilities.

AND for your information.......they gubment gave them 11 billion dollars in April to stay solvent, so the are NOT self sustaining, and for the first time in the history of the USPS they had to take tax dollars.

AND without saying anything personally about you...I've managed to answer all your comments.

I'm still waiting for you to point out specifically.....SPECIFICALLY where the gubment has taken or redirected monies from the USPS......

I think the USPS has made changes to get leaner and meaner.

    At this link http://about.usps.com/future-postal-...facts-2012.pdf
The USPS reports $66 billion in revenue in 2011. In the passed 4 years, their fleet of vehilces has decreased, from 221,047 to 213,881 (3$ reduction). Their routes declined from 244,800 to 213,88 a 13% reduction.
Total career employees have gone from 663,238 to 551,570 17% reduction).
The Postal Service operates the world’s largest fleet of alternative fuel-capable vehicles — more than 44,000
    — most are equipped to use ethanol. There are electric, compressed natural gas, liquid propane gas and bio-diesel
    vehicles.

So with theses reductions, how can they be running in the red when they make $66 Billion in 2011? I think its time for a very thorough audit. And it needs to start at the top, not at the bottom of USPS.

I think cutting the Saturday deliveries is smart business. 1/6 reduction of operation days = 16% reduction in fleet operation costs. Abd I'd rather get a bill on a work day then ruin my Saturday anyway!

I think the next increase in postage costs ought be to bulk mailers, bulk advertizers, not to us normal folks sending first class mail. If we normal folks mailing first class have to see an increase, maybe add a nickle to make a 50 cent stamp. No more.

There ought be only ONE....first class stamp. Just a black and white little sticker that says "USPS First Class" in simple black and white. No more fancy art work or 100's of choices of custom art stamps. I mean come on, a stamp is a ticket for your letter to ride in a delivery truck, not a work of art.

The United States Postal Service (USPS), also known as the Post Office and U.S. Mail, is an independent agency of the United States government responsible for providing postal service in the United States. It is one of the few government agencies explicitly authorized by the United States Constitution. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...Postal_Service

I have a lot of respect for the hardworking men and women of the USPS, and applaud their service to country. I do think it's time for their costs and their operatons to be audited, we have to have mail service, I don't think any of us want our tax dollars going to keep it open and running when it's supposed, by law to pay it's own way.

the post office would be just fine if it werent for the 2006 republican lame duck congress requiring 75 years of employee pensions and health care to be pre paid in a 10 year period--yes i said 75 years--what business pre pays 75 years of anything in advance--this was passed in an effort to bankrupt the postal service

this is nothing more than the repubs way to try to privatize mail delivery and line the pockets of ups and fedex who are very big donors to the repub party by the way
