Government-mandated support for renewables has helped Germany became a world leader in renewable energy and the country gets about 20 percent of its overall annual electricity from those sources.

While I admit it is a step in the right direction, your photo leaves a lot of information out. Here is an article on it from Reuters about that one, record setting day.

    Pretty amazing.

I have been into solar power for a long time. Have built my own 65watt panel which was very easy. Got it on my hunting shack with a deep cell 12volt battery. Enough for a few led lights and a radio, all I need when staying there.

If I had lots of money to risk would have already been building houses with solar systems and that would be my selling point. 30%-50% lower utility rate than any other house on the street.

This is about 23 cents / kw/hour.......they say it only added 2 cents/hour, but who knows.

Even at 2 additional cents, that is a 30% increase in the cost of energy. Are you DOWN with that.

and the solar cannot be sustained. Once storage complexes are up to par, then I'd say solar, wind, tidal, and other means are much more effective.

Unlike OPEC the Sun has maitained a stable price for it's energy for over 100,000,000 years. It's the same price today as it was in year 45,000 BC. It does not leave sludge ponds in it's wake.

MIT has developed a liquid battery that can store surplus energy for peak use periods. It's in the early development stages now. Even without storage these systems can reduce the amount of oil used in oil fired generating stations.

I was driving up US 127 the other day and a truck passed in the oposite lane with one blade for a wind turbine. I have seen these generators off in the distance off interstates but had never seen one up close. That one blade was BIG. Was taking up two lanes with escort vehicles front and back. Has a special trailer under it with (did not count) an estemated 40+ wheels. I would also guess it was over 100 feet in length.

    I want one!

Oh, and I know all about Sodium Ion storage.....I posted a link about it earlier.........

Once it is up and going, maybe....but that is a long way off.

I have some really off the wall ideas for electric generation.

When I go by a gym and see ten, fifteen people running exercise bikes. First thing think of is those bike wheels turning a gear which turns about 800 more gears, rotating a massive turbine. Instead of these people paying to exercise just come to my power plant and you can exercise all your want for free.

    solar power

No one can say "there aint no such thing". But right now its being "studied"! When the energy companys figure out a way to grab it, it will work great.Wind farms are another option,I drive through one a couple times a year in northen indiana. Its a shame that those generators and blades need to be built over seas.
