hey no one respond on fl discution board so got a question. where are some good spots in sarasota and tip will be a big help thanks

Doesn't surprise me that no one responded over there. It's not a board known for that. Anyway...if your just going to fish from the pier or boat dock get some frozen shrimp or squid and a set up like a Carolina rig or use small split shot and have fun. I go down to Bradenton a few times a year and fish off a boat dock with dead shrimp and catch snook, snapper, Ladyfish, sailors choice, jacks and sting rays.
Live shrimp are good to but they will go fast and are expensive when compared to dead bait. What kind of fishing you planning on doing? Taking a boat? Renting something? Find a local tackle shop and they can recommend some access points.

I have been down there several times. I usually go to Siesta Key area. Like DJD said you can fish piers and some boat docks. Also under bridges in some places. Instead of going with real shrimp I use a soft plastic; white with a red jighead. Gulp baits work well too. Another thing you can do is fish the beaches. Just get to a spot away from the swimmers and start casting. I like to use a Storm Wild Eye Shad. Go to a tackle store and talk with someone there to get information. Most will be helpful. And of course you can always go out on a headboat. Most charge around $35 for a half-day. Good luck and have fun.

thanks I know all the info o how to catch just looking for spots. me and my buddy go down the this sea wall at his familys place and catch little stuff but put up hell of a fight for there size but this year were going for some sheephead there know to be down in that area. thanks for all your help. good luck to ya ,andrew

ya ive been looking into the piers near there but spring break idk how paked they will get. thanks good luck to you to.

I'm taking my Yak with me next time. I have been talking to several anglers down there and seeing several in Yaks hitting the backwater mangroves and canals. It kills me to watch and not be in the water cat hing reds and snook but this day will come soon!!!

that sounds like a blast me and my friend like to paddle board so were going to rent some for the day and just go up and down the beach catching whatever. and do you have a castnet? because I have one and me and my friend also use greenbacks those are really good

Yep! It's a small one but easy to cast out and pack around. It's a great way to get bait for sure. I grew up fishing the east coast of Florida. Places like Sebastian Inlet, Indian River and Port Canaveral. The west coast is new to me but fishing is fishing and a little time on the water I'll be having a blast!
I hope to get into some sharks somewhere while down there. We used to catch small sand sharks on light tackle around power plants and those little sharks are amazing!

Another way to catch bait is a Sabiki rig. I think I have it spelled right. There are about 5 or 6 small hooks on a piece of line. I drop it over the side when pier fishing and catch all the bait I need.
