I have a 3-4-5 coming and have never swung one. Anybody like these clubs? I went with Callaway and hope I like them but have reservations about this style and if I can get more distance or control. I never swing a 4 or 5 iron so time will tell.

I absolutely love my hybrid irons.
9 times out of 10 I can not hit a wood or driver straight so when I'm out playing with friends who don't want to chase my balls around all day I will tee off with my 2iron hybrid. I can only hit it a little over 200 yards but 200 yards straight down the fairway is way better than 300yards to the extreme left or right.
Thanks, your comment has eased my reservations. 200 straight is old mens golf and that wins most every time! I hit a pretty good 3 iron and if the hybrid is better I will definetly add a 2 to my bag but I must say I have never seen a 2 in hybrid. I keep a 1 in my bag to get under low spots though.I absolutely love my hybrid irons.

I am very new to golf. My third lesson is on Monday and so far I'm just learning how to swing properly. Going great so far.... Anyway what exactly is this Hybrid? You use it as an iron and hit it off the grass? So a 5 iron and a 5 hybrid is different how?? Just curious...
Don, a hybrid is basically a cross between an iron and a wood. A lot of people can't hit the long irons very well (3-4-5) and hybrids came to be. They have a bigger head than an iron, but not as big as a wood. Lower center of gravity designed to get the ball airborne quicker. You hit them off the grass where you would typically hit a 3-4-5 iron...and you can hit them off a tee, if you tee the ball really low like you do when teeing off with an iron (par 3, for example).
Myself, I've never been able to hit hybrids well for some reason. I don't hit my long irons particularly well either. Worst part if my game is any shot with a 3-4-5 iron. I rarely hit the 3...at that distance, I generally hit a 3 or 5 wood instead, which I can hit okay. I use 5-iron regularly though, just don't hit it as far as I should.
Sounds like we play the same except I cannot hit a 5 wood at all, its actually embarassing. Cant hit a 4 or 5 and get any range either. My downfall is a putter, cant seem to find a good one, LMAO! If you ever play Brightleaf in Harrodsburg let me know and I will get us a tee time.Don, a hybrid is basically a cross between an iron and a wood. Parker I was the same way.
I'm a pretty darn solid short game golfer. LW,SW,PW,9,8 and 7 are my strengths.
It was 6 iron and down that I struggled mightily with. I don't know what it is about the hybrids but they are very easy to hit. If I need to go further than my 7iron I no longer think of 6,5,4, etc....I go straight for my 4,3 or 2 hybrid.
DJ a hybrid iron looks like a wood but is much smaller(the head of the club is smaller). They are really only good for hitting off the fairway or tee. In the thick a normal 4 iron would be better than a 4 hybrid, at least in my opinion.
Their are all kind of hybrid clubs out there. Some are irons and others are just size and degrees of loft. Call it a wood call it a iron call it a hybrid,, its just a modern golf club in the end.
I'm by no means a expert, been playing golf off and on for about the last seven years now. Really good with my short game because when I started playing the only place that I played at often was the old par three course that used to be at Bellarmine University off Newburg Rd. It was a $7 green fee that was good for all day. Would play 36 holes two or three times a week. Sometimes I got coaching from buddies who have been playing since they were knee high to grasshoppers.
I love golf because to me its a fun game that is very comparable to fishing and hunting. Don't know how to put that comparison into words but once you start playing a lot you'll understand.

No idea why other than that's what I have used for the two lessons and that's what I have taken to the driving range along with a wedge.
i will hit a nice ball and feel great and then top one and send it charging across the ground!! I just need practice...![]()
